I have had normal pap smears for the past two years and now this third year I have HPV. Could I have had HPV then and it just not show up or did I get it sometime after my last pap smear?

hello ldwynn30127,
i would say that if your pap smears were normal during the first two years, and you were told you have HPV only during the last year, you probably got it from someone during the third year.
it is surprizing how many pple actually do not know they have HPV, since most of the time there are no symptoms it is more frightening for women though, since it can affect their reproductive system. men do not really have to worry about it much... another prob. women have to deal with...
make sure you have pap smears done every six months. that's what drs recommend when one has hpv.
take care of yourself!
