My 6.5 month old DS has had a funny tummy lately. For about a week now. He spits up, well it's not as much as a vomit but more than a spit up, quite a bit. He wont let me feel his gums anymore. He used to open wide when he saw my finger coming at him because he wanted to chew it. Now he purses his lips up tight if I come near his mouth. Also he reallly doesn't want to eat solids anymore. He still has his bottle fine, I mean maybe leaving an ounce here or there. But he doesn't want solids really at all anymore. He also has these crying spells sometimes, where he just start wailing like his in pain and then it stops.
The Dr did say his gums are a little swollen but it's been like a week and no tooth yet. He has no teeth at all yet. Would the first one be really hard one them? Does anyone have any guesses as to what could be going on? Why does he not want solids anymore but will take his bottle? It hasn't affected his sleep...yet. Thank God!
Any ideas or advice would be awsome. I am really confused.

It could definitely be teething... My now 8mo ds acted similarily when he was getting his first two teeth (which arrived within a couple days of eachother). And he was crabby and upset for probably about a week or 10 days straight before those teeth came in. For him, the first 2 were the hardest so far to cut (now he has 8).
I know that spitting up and also diarreah (sp.?) can also be signs of teething. It's a little strange that he doesn't want you to put your fingers in his mouth because it relieves some of the pain when they are allowed to chew on stuff... But to each their own, I guess! Try not to worry about it, it's probably teething, maybe he has a bit of a stomach bug to go along with it? I would wait a few more days and see if anything breaks through before taking him for a check up.

yeah, teething will do that to a baby. the excessive saliva drains down into their tummies and makes their tummies upset.... can also cause diarrhea too.... and we're talking the real bad acidic kind of diarrhea, so make sure you're using diaper cream. and if his teeth are getting ready to break through, he may not want your finger in his mouth because his gums might be really tender.

teething tablets work for immediate, short term relief, and motrin works for long term relief. let him sleep at an incline, and during the day, give him cold teething toys to chew on.

as far as how long his gums have been swollen.... it took my daughter at least a month and a half for her first tooth to break through! :)

Now that you mention it he does have a sore looking bum right now. All red and raw looking...OUCH! I thought maybe because we just tried giving him pears that maybe they were too acidic for him or he was having a reaction.
Why would you suggest "no diaper rash cream"??? Shouldn't we be using it to help his bum feel better?

Oops, just reread your post. You said make sure you ARE using a cream. Sorry. ;)
