I found out after I got pregnant (and after the father and I split up) taht he has genital herpes. I told my doc and, of course, got tested. I was told that I do not have the strain of genital herpes. Now that I am so close to my due date, I've been put on medication for herpes. Is this normal if the father has herpes and the mother does not?

Yes. Because it can take up to six months to show up positive on a blood test, this is a safety precaution in case you are positive but just haven't tested positive yet. It has nothing to do with whether or not the father has herpes - dad cannot spread the virus to an unborn infant - it's not genetic. But Mom can pass it through the birth canal - so better safe than sorry.
