My RE has suggested that I go for IVF. Does anyone have any advice? He said they put you to sleep, do you feel it? Is it uncomfortable? Does it take a long time? When in your cycle do you start? I guess you have to take medication first too right? Sorry about all the questions....

Asileen I am sorry I cannot answer your questions as I have never done IVF but there are ladies here who can help you.
Good luck

Is it me or does there seem to be an awful lot of people from the NJ area on this board? I know it has a very large population but almost makes you think there is something in the in air around here!
Sorry, I too have not and pray that I don't have to resort to IVF either. I have had 3 IUI's so far. I guess your chances of actually getting pregnant are much better with IVF than IUI or nothing at all. Good luck.

Hello Asileen and welcome.
I have been through IVf 2 times before so I know alot about it, unfortunately.
Yes, they do put you to sleep for the egg retrieval. It's only about a 20-30 minute surgery (outpatient) so you'll go home about 2 hours after the procedure. you really won't feel anything. I went back to work the next day with no problems. Just slight soreness in the ovaries area.
There is a MULTITUDE of medication involved in IVf (usually about $2000 worth). Unfortunately, it's more shots and needles than you will ever want to see in your life. You will have to do shots for roughly 5-6 weeks during an IVF cycle.
Shots usually begin the week BEFORE you stop BCP.
So, for a timeline, from the time you start taking shots until the time you find out you're pregnant :) is approximately 5 weeks.
There's alot of preparation involved and that is just a brief explanation. But, there are some great websites on IVF that can give better details!
If you have any more questions, just ask!

Hi Asileen and welcome I cant answer your questions as I dont start my 1st IVF cycle for another 6 weeks but I think Bees has done a good job in explaining the basics. I just wanted to wish you all the best and hope you get your BFP very soon.
