hi, my wife is about 33 years old. her menstruation cycle is 35 days. This month she had no menses and 20 days have gone by (that means she had menses 50 days ago). When 10 days were over, we got her blood test done for pregnancy but it was negative. What could be the reason for not having menses so far, Or can we still expect for a good news - pregnancy?

saifra,
When I was your wife's age, I remember that even really regular periods (mine were every 23-25 days like clockwork) could occasionally become irregular. I did occasionally miss a period, but I wasn't pregnant.
My understanding is that ovulation takes place 2 weeks before the next period, not two weeks after the last one. Thus, allowing for occasional irregular periods, it isn't always possible to know from a pregnancy test whether you are pregnant if you are assuming that this month was supposed to happen on time. In other words, wait a week or two, and if her period hasn't started, take another pregnancy test. I hope that you have a happy result! :)

Thanks so much for your guidance ma'm rheanna. i just want to ask one thing more that if regular periods don't come on due date, does the ovulation still occur after about two weeks, or for ovulation it is compulsory to have periods first? i mean is the egg released every month irrespective of periods or not?
if even the next pregnancy test is negative, should we take some medicine for the periods to come?
Regards
