Good morning, everyone...I had to discontinue taking Cymbalta (60 mg) daily, which I had taken for 4 weeks and have since been off of it for about 5-6 days now. Since then, I have developed unpleasant new symptoms, along with severe pain from lower lumbar spine abnormalities (not to mention a heart condition). One unpleasant symptom that I am experiencing is severe nausea, whenever I take my daily pain medication (Hydrocodone 5/500). I have been on that medication of over a month and have only been suffering from severe nausea, since I got off of the Cymbalta. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to control or get rid of the nausea so that I can take my pain medication. I am scared to even take it today, and my pain level is an "8." I really appreciate everyone's time and ideas...God bless you!

Maybe take it with food? Or at least a glass of milk. Good luck

What you are experiencing is SSRI discontinuation syndrome which is withdrawal symptoms from the cymbalta. You should have weaned yourself off of this instead of stopping it cold turkey. Here is some info that I found:

The manufacturer of duloxetine - brand name Cymbalta - warns that "one should not suddenly stop taking this medicine, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, pins and needles sensations, nausea, difficulty sleeping, intense dreams, headache, tremor, agitation or anxiety. Withdrawal symptoms are temporary and are not the same as addiction."

Hopefully the nausea will get better after a couplde of days. You can buy anti-nausea medicine over the counter at most drug stores. You may have to ask the pharmacist since it is difficult to spot on the shelves. Sometimes it says it is for children but you can take it just double the dose. If that doesn't help try taking Dramamine (motion sickness) medication which will help with nausea but make sure you get the non-drowsy formula because the regular one will make you VERY DROWSY. That should get you through the nausea which will probably last for up to a week. If that doesn't help enough there are several prescription medications including Phenergan but all of there will make you very drowsy. Keep us posted

Great catch Brian!

To the OP - You might try splitting the hydro/apap tablet in half, and take them 30 minutes apart.

Not to be on the icky side but my pm told me that if I ever had severe nausea that i could use my pain meds as a suppository. As long as you aren't taking long acting meds like Oxycontin he said it would work. I have had to use this method before and it does work. Good luck.~Mush

Thank you all so much for the AWESOME advice! I never thought about using the pain medication as a suppository (but it does sound like it would work great). I found out that my symptoms were caused from degenerative disc disease, which has spread to my cervical spine. It is causing severe muscles spasms in my neck, extremely high blood pressure (due to the severe pain), and severe migraines! I have began taking my pain medication again today and also my general physician prescribed me Soma (for the severe neck muscle spasms). Thanks again for the AWESOME advice!
