When I first started to post here in 2005, many of the women were going through a lot of suffering similar to mine. I don't get a lot of responses when I post now, but that is ok!! We all go through different phases during this challenging journey. I am wondering, though, how the following ladies are feeling now, three years later...
Molly, Ainfante, Little jmb, Wizard, Nornie, Heavenly, Chilijava, Liverpool Sue, Ann, Lincyclist, and Hellasrules. I know there are others, but if any of you ladies still visit this site, let all of us know how you are feeling. AND...what may have helped you to feel better!!
I have to leave now for a pelvic ulstrasound to see if everything is ok...
Thanks everyone, and happy MLK day!

i'm still here!
as you can see, i joined in april 2006, and by that time had actually had my last ever period two months previously, although didn't realise it then. i've learned such a lot from reading and posting here, things i didn't know anything about (like the 35 symptoms), and other things i had a little vague knowledge of but have found out a lot more about since being here (like helpful supplements).
i think i was actually just about over the worst of it by the time i reached here, and things have got a lot better for me since. the best thing about being post menopausal is no more pms - looking back, that was awful, the absolute worst thing. i expected heavy, irratic periods, but not the terrible out of control feeling and madness of pms.
i still get occasional hot feelings, but definitaly not hot flashes, far less heat and less frequent. and the brain fog/memory thing is, i think, getting better too. or maybe i just got used to it and don't worry about it any more.
the breast lumps i used to get (about 4 a year) have disappeared too, which the doctor said would happen once the periods stopped.
good news all round for me now. i may still have a hairy chin, but i can live with that.
what about everyone else?

Hi,
I know what you mean about posting and not really seeing alot of responses. Couple years ago I starting posting here and it changed my life, I found out I wasn't alone. It seemed more people posted back then. I did go on a HRT for 2 years, but recently weaned off it. Some of my issues have returned but I am trying to tough it out this time so I have been posting more on the boards again. I have started on a progesterone cream so we will see how that goes. I was going to give you a little update on a couple names you mentioned as they are friends of mine, littlejmb, Nornie, and Molly are doing better. Time has helped them and staying on good vitamins and eating healthy. I am sorry to say that Hellasrules (Faith) passed away Dec. 26th, 07 from Lung Cancer. She will always be missed as she helped me through alot of tough days.
Julie:)

Hello Viktik
I too joined this board in 05 and would not have known what to do without it. Back then I was experiencing everything from buzzing feet to muscle twitching. I remember all the ladies you mentioned on your post.
I got discouraged after awhile posting as I found the ladies I was used to were no longer here and like you said , quite often noone would answer your post. But I do have to say... I still pop on weekly to reassure myself that in this road to peri "I am normal" . I hope you and everyone one else from then is doing well. Take care.

Thanks for starting this post. I have thought about doing it but I didn't know if anyone was still around to answer.
I pop in about once a week to see what is going on.
I am now 4 years post. I didn't start the board until I was 1 year post. That is when all the symptoms came about for me.
I am doing a lot better now. At 2 years, I was really bad. I think that I had every symptom there was and then some.
I am back to walking 4-5 miles a day and have a ton of energy most days.
Every once in a while one of the symptoms will appear but it does not stay like it did. The anxiety remains but for the most part is managable.
I hope that the others check in.
Thank you,
Sue

Julie,
Thank you to you and the others for your responses. I'm glad you and the others are doing a little better. I am so sad to hear about Faith passing away. She was a wonderful contributor to this board. I thought about it off and on yesterday, and pray for comfort for her family. Thanks for letting us know about it. I'm still struggling with the nausea and other issues, but I keep hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel! I hope you will start to feel better too!

Hi viktik, I have had some nausea issues on and off but have found taking a digestive aid has helped some. Also I try and eat small snacks in between meals. The hot flashes are hard to deal with but am managing it but the Night Sweats are so hard, it makes me tired the next day. I also have dizziness problems but not sure if it is a menopause thing or not, have had my ears looked at but of course they want to do more tests. I do miss Faith everyday, towards the end I talked with her every other day and I so miss being able to pick up the phone to chat. Her family is managing pretty good though. But she was so full of wisdom and help.
So how did your pelvic ulstrasound turn out? Have they told you anything yet? I will be praying all is well for you. Let us know.
Thanx, Julie:)

Hi Julie,
The pelvic ultrasound showed that I have a uterine fibroid, which my gyn said is very common. She said that is why I had a little bleeding that one day. Thank you for asking! I have the dizziness sometimes too, and I think that goes along with menopause. As I mentioned before, my worst symptom has been the nausea. I wasn't able to eat much at all yesterday, and I'm already thin. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with the night sweats. I had that happen one time, and it was miserable. I pray that it will ease up for you. I hope you have a blessed day, and that you will feel better soon. I know we all want to get through this and feel normal again!
Blessings,
viktik

Hi Viktik, Normal, I don't remember what that is, LOL. Well your prayers helped last night, my night sweats were not as bad as they have been. Yes the uterine fibroid's seem to be common. I pray they don't continue to give you any problems. Glad it wasn't anything more serious. Have a wonderful day.

Hi,
I just posted a lengthy response to JUDE so you will read that from me and now more how I am doing. But I was just on here after not browsing since probably earlier January and saw this post too and wanted to respond to it.
Julie has caught you up on how some of the others are doing that you mentioned ..and also let you know about dear Faith, who we so miss. Just does not seem possible she is no longer with us. But I know she is.
anyway, I was glad to see the familiar names in here ..I started posting in 2003/04 and it was due to high anxiety issues . I never imagined that peri/meno would hold such anxiety but I was soon to find out, for me at least it was like a long PMS. Not constant for me thankfully as far as symptoms. The worst as i mention in my long post to Jude was when I was 50 and 51.
I am now a year without my period and I know it is not a magic wand where things are going to go away for good. I have read too many posts on here from Twanger and others that tell me that one can still get symptoms . As for how I am : anxiety issues still come up, but seem to not take over as much and with the help of friends when I am nutsy , they help me out of it; nightsweats : do not have them like I did, they are rare; hotflashes : never had till just recently and they are not a problem to me compared to the other things like anxiety and stomach issues. Those stomach issues were awful at one time for me. That seems to have calmed down along with the twinges. Still have aches and anxiety but not to the overwhelming extent I did. Like Sue said..it doesn't seem to hang in there as it once did. But I wish I could say it was all gone.
I am so glad Vitik that you started this as there are so many I have been wondering about too and how they are. I try to pop in and see how everyone is doing and respond when I can. This board was a lifesaver for me and the people I met still are. So I like to think if I can help as it helped me I will pop in and do so. The support it has given me has been invaluable.
Thanks!!

Oh my…I can't believe you remember me!! I hope I'm the Molly you are referring to! Anyway, heard about this post and thought I check in too! Haven't had a period since late 2005 (wow! seems like a heck of a longer time!). Haven't had any problems anymore except there were occasional hot flashes. My only complaint these days are aches & pain. Have some lower back and sciatica issues that come and goes. Guess I can't blame it on post-meno...probably just old age! LOL!
Actually, I found the board shortly AFTER I was doing fairly fine which was probably in 2004, To refresh your memory, I was hit hard with so many symptoms so suddenly (all came and went in about 5-6 months) before I found the board that I stayed on the board to reassure women out there that I survived it. I believe I did a search on internal shakes and that when this board came up. It was a blessing to know I wasn't alone in experiencing such a scary weird symptom….and then the support and friendships that developed from this board was just amazing. One of them was Hellasrules....dear Faith who will be greatly missed and will always remain in my heart...
I am still on Paxil (generic) and have wanted to get off of it couple of years ago but it has helped with my anxiety so much that I'm also afraid to wean off of it too. It was going on Paxil that got me feeling almost immediately better too.
I did have some breast issues couple of years ago that required a biopsy and surgery but all came out fine (had benign califications on right breast). Then had another breast scare on my left breast (they think they see something – not sure so I had to get ultrasounds and a MRI – only to find it was nothing. Was back to normal mammogram screening last year and everything is normal.
Thank you, Vitik, for starting this thread...I do remember many of you too...Twanger, Chilijava, Ainfante, and there was also Cowgirl, Palsma and probably more once I see the names! I'll pop in more now and perhaps I can help give helpful advice and support to those who have been struggling with this change in life!
Glad your ultrasound came out fine too!

Needless to say Becky , Molly, Julie and ALL of you on the board and elsewhere, continue to be a huge support thru all the ups and downs of this peri/meno ride. I am not as bad as I said from 2 years ago and things do get better, Vitek in answer to your post. That is the one thing I can say I know for sure..that things do get better.
I also think the single most important thing in helping the symptoms though...is finding support like this , to know one is not alone. It just makes a world of difference in the way one feels and how one copes.

Hi Vitik!
So nice to hear that you remember the old gang and wanted to know how we were! It has been probably two years since I have written here. Every time I browsed the browsed, I didn't see a familiar name, so I checked less and less. Sorry to hear you are still having problems! Are you the one that is a singer? I remember you on the boards, but was wondering which one you were.
As far as myself, I am doing a whole lot better! I have gone through some really life changing experiences in the last year; my husband died a year ago, my office moved to a new location, I got a new boss, etc. But it turned out to be one of the greatest year's of my life. I still get much needed support from some of the girls you mentioned (Julie, RMC, Molly, Diane05, Nornie12, Little Amy, and our dear departed Faith, who as Julie said, passed away in December of this past year.) She is missed by us all as she seemed to be the rock of our group and gave us such inspiration and kept us encouraged! We will always be eternally grateful for her, and this board for getting us all together.
I am three years post meno now, and at the moment I don't suffer any of the meno symptoms. Every once in a while the hot flashes will rear their ugly head, but I haven't had one in quite a while now. I rarely have the nausea either, and I had that quite a bit while I was going through meno and it was very bad. Also the phantom periods, like RMC is experiencing now. In time, things do get alot better, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel - believe me!

Hi Jackie (littlejmb!)
Yes, I am the singer! Since I have been feeling so bad though, I haven't been singing as much. I decided a few mintues ago to check the board, and I was so happy to see you, Molly, Diane, twanger, rmc12, Julie, and all the others back here!! I have been thinking about all of you, because when I first came, it was a wonderful blessing to have others who understood what this suffering is like. I haven't had a period in 1.5 years, so I hope I'm getting close to the time when I can feel somewhat normal again. I'm so glad you are all doing better!
I finally got the courage to have a colonoscopy. I had it last Monday, and everything was ok. No polyps, but I do have a tortuous colon, which I guess is fairly common. It means it is longer than normal and kind of twisted. My mom has the same thing. I had a wonderful doctor, and I didn't feel a thing during the procedure. The worst part of all were the two prep days--that was horrific! I'm really glad it is over...
Well, I'll be checking in again soon! Happy Saturday everyone!

Vitik,
I do remember you and I discussing the colonoscopy. Yes had mine also and all was well.
I did not know you were one and half years post meno. Do you find it has been worse or better for you? Sorry if you mentioned this before and I did not read a post about it. I just wish all the symptoms would disappear now that I am a year without my period but I know that is wishful thinking. what is better is that it is all not constant as it would be for months at a time before. But I am experiencing a lot of bloating, some anxiety and some phantom type periods ..where i think I am getting it but do not. I know it is all normal but it can sure be frustrating too. So I know totally how you feel.
I am so glad your ultrasound came out okay.
Glad to hear from you. Hoping for better days for us all.

I do remember you and I discussing the colonoscopy. Yes had mine also and all was well.

I wanted to respond to what Lesley, Brown eyed susie said.. we were on the board too around the same time. I too pop in now and then as you mentioned and put it so well...so reassure myself that the I am normal. That to me has helped a great deal and all the support from everyone.
Good to see you.

Twanger,
When I saw you name it reminded me that you were so helpful in explaining the twinges I was getting a lot then..kind of on the side and above navel or on line with it. Do you still get those? I do not often but they sometimes pop up or near the breastbone area. but nothing like before thankfully.
Good to see you also.

rmc12- Yes, I still get those side/hip bowel twinges sometimes. They went away for awhile but sometimes they come back and with my anxiety levels a little high ( yes, still) I get worried.
I can't figure out if they are from muscle or maybe IBS. I hope that you have not had them as much.
It is really good to see everyone here. I am 5 years post and so much better for the most part. I have tons of energy and still have a few hot flashes but mostly when I am anxious. That part remains but usually I can go out for a long walk and things improve.
I hope that we all keep in touch.

It is nice to see some names here from the past. This message board has helped me through some difficult times. I find this support to be one of the best medicines. Take care all, Julie:)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board as of last fall and it has been so helpful to me. I am 10 yrs post-menopausal but most of my symptoms started 5 yrs ago. My husband and I have searched evrtywhere to find out what was wrong with me and it wasn't until I found this board that most of my symptoms were answered. I've gone back and read most of the ladies posts and your suggestions and reasoning and concern for all of us has been wonderful for me to relate to. I have alot of health issues that I now know are menopause related and even some of the strange illnesses I had before my periods stopped I know were peri, I never really felt good, but went on anyway as I didn't know what was wrong, neither did doctors. I'm better in some respects, some things I don't have anymore but they have been replaced by some really worse symptoms. I was on hrt a while, I liked it but it didn't like me, it helped me in many ways but made my heart palps worse. Like all of you mentioned each day has its new pain. I'm glad so many of you are well now. Just wondering if any of you had this wrong with you and are now over it? I have the worst burning pain in my lower legs, and feet, to the point I can hardly walk. It feels like sunburn and the skin won't stretch, my leg muscles tighten up, from the pain, it seems to pull on the tendons and ligaments so the backs of my legs hurt so much they feel like stone. The more I walk the more they hurt, so I lay on the bed 1/2 hr, get up walk & repeat the process over. One knee hurts constantly, at times I can't straighten it out. My feet and hands get cold and burn, terrible burn. I've been checked for everything, including fibro., negative on all. Has anyone had this and gotten better again?? I miss doing all I used to do so much, I live in the country and love being outside, but some days I can barely walk. I live with other symptoms you have had also, horrible burning intestinal gas, flashes, internal jitters, palpatations, even the shakes. I'm a patient, high pain tolerent women, but boy, it gets tough to make it through some days, it seems like ther is no end in site, especially after 10 years of this. Has anyone else had symptoms this long?? Thanks to everyone. Linda

Like I said before Linda, I have every single symptom that you do.
I also have some autoimmune diseases, but they were nothing compared to this. My body doesnt like anything foreign in it at all anymore.
The only thing I can do it keep trying new hormones and supplements to see if I can get some relief. I was also told that if you dont take a high enough dose of estrogen, it will make you feel sicker?
I've been to so many doctors and have had so many tests. The thing Im learning most is all the neuro problems associated with low estrogen and menopause, yet when I asked my neuro, he said menopause shouldnt be causing this, yet after reading several internet sites, seems it can be common. Pray for some relief for all of us who are suffering horribly..take care sweetie..know you are not alone...

I didn't have the burning. However, I get twitching. I noticed that you live in Pa. Did you notice that this stiffness/pain gets worse in the winter?
We have almost the same kind of weather as you and I have found that, over the past several years, I have much more trouble from Nov.-Apr. A couple of years ago, my knees and legs got so bad that I was on crutches. I usually walk 4-5 miles/day but at the time I could not walk down the driveway. The next year, the same thing happened.
At that time, I got every stretching/yoga book I could from Amazon. I started doing the stretching on a regular basis. It helped me get through the next winter.
I still have the aches in my legs and feet but most of the time I stretch and go for my walk.
It is tough I know, but this is a time when we have to take a little more time with, and for ourselves. I miss the days that I could just hop out of bed and go. Now, it takes more time but it is worth it.
Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Twanger, I'm glad you are better, it gives me hope. Yes I do live where its cold and lots of snow, but the problem is year round. My legs and knees feel like they are full of water and swollen, but they are not, did yours feel this way? I can't fold my legs up under me anymore as bending at the knee is so painful, mostly behind the knee like there is a wedge stuck there, the pain is instant when I have folded them in half too far, like I can't squat down anymore as that is a total knee bend, were you like that too?, but my legs are stiff too, like stone at times. I hate this, I need to be able to use my legs or I will loose strength in them and I try so hard to do what I used to so I don't get worse. I was so active, I have many flower gardens and a one acre veggie garden that I put in and tended to the last 10 years and an orchard, so many a day a shovel was my best friend, I used to wear them out, and running, jumping and walking all day was normal for me, I miss it so much. I pray this goes away soon, I'd be happy to just walk in the grocery store, which I can't do anymore. I've been everywhere to doc's, rheumatologists, mri's, no one can find anything wrong. So in my way of deductions, its menopause. I thank everyone for their responces. Linda

Yes,yes yes, that is what they felt like. I got an excellent book describing trigger points in all those muscles that make them feel that way. It was a book describing Fibromyalgia.
I could not bend my knees either but when I started stretching ( yes, it did hurt) I could loosen things up and move better.
I could only stretch a little but over time I could do a lot.
Give it a try or find a stretching/yoga class and see if you can work some of the kinks out.
Meno does bring it on but, for your sake, try to work it off. Life is too short not to enjoy it.
Keep me posted.
