So heres the thing.... My girlfriend was diagnosed with bipolar when she was 13 or 14 or so after her dad died in Iraq. I met her when she was 16, shortly after she said she was happy all the time and went back to the doctor and she said that she didnt have to take the pills anymore because she no longer had bipolar disorder. Everyone I tell that to says that its unbelievable and has a hard time believing her. Lately I have been having a hard time believing her with things as well, even though she doesnt seem to be having the extreme highs or lows as before. So my question is, is it possible for Bipolar to go away, or has she lied to me the last 6 months? I guess it would be easy to lie cuz its been long distance but I dont know much about the disorder so hopefully someone can chime in.

IT DOES NOT EVER GO AWAY!!! It may get better with Meds. The med's usually have to be readjusted as well. Bi-polar is not like the flu, you can't take antibiotics and wham after the RX is done, your better.
Hope this helps.

No, Bipolar disorder does not go away as far as mental health professions are concerned. Sometimes, with the right meds, the symptoms can be lessened. It is to my understanding that meds need to be checked regularly.;)

No, it doesn't go away, but is it possible that she was just emotionally wrecked because of her dad's death and has recovered a bit from that?

It must be hard to tell if it's long-distance, but I think time will tell.
