Hi there...
I'm 50 and have been post menstrual for about 4 or 5 years. Thought I'd skated through menopause without a hitch. Never had hot flashes.

Just in the last month I have had two episodes that I initially thought was a systemic allergic reaction, but wonder if it could be a hot flash.

It started out with my skin itching so badly I could hardly stand it. Then it started to burn, and then I noticed that I was red all over (from head to toe)...as my daughter said "like you've got a bad sunburn". It felt like my skin was 2 sizes too small, and simply wanted to rip the clothing from my body (which I was able to do, cause I was at home... :) ) My legs, arms, hands, face, ears, torso, and everything else that I'm not thinking of, started to itch and burn. It subsided for the most part in about an hour, but I was wiped out for longer a few hours.

After 2 weeks, I had another of the same, this time, trying to think of it in terms of a hot flash. The thing that I question is if anyone has had severe itching that accompanied a hot flash.

Has anyone out there had this kind of an experience with a hot flash, or know of anyone else that has?

Smiles,
Sandy

Sandy, I turn red, itch and sweat during a hot flash but it only lasts a few minutes and goes away until the next "event" which may be a few minutes later. I have never had a hot flash last for hours.

It doesn't sound like the hot flashes I have had. It sounds more like an allergic reaction to something. I do turn bright red and itch sometimes but only for the hot flash, it doesn't stay with me.

I Knew a girl who went on an antibiotic, didn't read the info on the bag, went tanning and turned red, and started itching like mad....turns out the med caused photosensitivity, so yeah, shouldn't have tanned.....are you on new meds, or do you work outside for any length of time.....also you can acquire new allergies any time of your life......new soaps, etc....
