You begin one small step at a time. I don't know what sort of exercise you get now, but if you walk a bit, try to add a few more minutes per day and keep doing that.

Before you see the dietitian, try to cut out one or two small things from your diet (ie, drop one cream and or sugar from your coffee, change a carb snack to a green veggie snack). Every little bit helps and if you do it a bit at a time, it won't seem so hard.

Best of luck to you.

Miss, I would echo Cora's words here.

Only to add that at the age of 70, your numbers are NOT very bad.
I only post here to tell you that you are not in BIG trouble so don't fret too much.

With you starting an exercise program, I would think your numbers will get better soon. Keep positive and you will be just fine.

My thoughts are with you.

Thank you so much for responding. This whole thing scared me and your words were very encouraging. Thanks

Hi, welcome to the family.

I am 64 yrs old. I work to keep my diabetes under contrik, Age doesn't matter. The first thing I did when I was diagnsed was to go straing to
the ADA(American Diabes Association). They give free information and will
answer any question you have. Once I learned the 3 basic steps. Diet, Exercise and meds, then like that one person said I took it one step at a
time.;)

If you jump in all at once, you will find problems and hard to do.

You are where I was when I was diagnosed two years ago at 70. My A1c was 6.4. I started on a low carb diet and exercise three times a week at the YMCA, concentrating on muscle building exercises. I wasn't overweight, but I lost 30 pounds rather quickly due to the diet. My A1c has been around 5.7 lately (got down to 5.5) and I am feeling much fitter and healthier and have never needed medication.
