Hi I am new here. I get these headaches which might occur for days in a row with the pain concentrating in my eyes..usually one side or the other. Have seen opthamologist and my eyes are ok. I have occasional sinus problems but seem to get no relief from sinus medications.
Anyone have similar problems? I am at my wits end to find relief. Doctors have not been much help

Could be severe sinusitis. You may want to check with your doc about this and see if maybe a set of sinus x-rays would help to check this out. The pain near the eyes on one side or the other as well as the fact that you do mention suffering from occasional sinus problems makes me think it might be something along that line but only your doc can tell for sure.

Thanks for reply. I had an x-ray and said it looked ok. Dr. did give me antibiotic which I been taking for over a week now but still no relief. I see Dr. again in couple weeks, but I have been to 3 different doctors in last few weeks trying to get relief.
Maybe I am a puss but this pain, even at a low grade, debilitates me for the whole day. I have hopes that eventually I will find solution.

Hi,

I am not sure if it could be or not but it may be TMJ. This was my first symptom of it, having a headache behind my eyes. pain behind the eyes is a symptom of so many things. What does the pain feel like? I can tell you if it feels like mine, I wish I knew something that would help this, I cant stand this pain :( and it is daily.

Take Care,
Starr

Thanks Starr..
As a matter of fact I do have TMJ but has never caused me pain as far as I know. I never thought of bringing to attention of doctors or that it could be a cause of headaches.

I saw a dr. at the VA yesterday and he thought I may have "cluster" headaches and gave my caffrenol which is 100mg of caffeine and some other ingredient. I have not had chance to use since I have been fortunate not to have had a headache in a couple days. I will bring up TMJ on my next visit to see if that could be a factor.
What do you do for your pain?
Thanks for advice

Hey Starr,
Forgot to describe my pain..is centered in the eyeballs..feels like eyeballs are pushing out of their sockets and if it gets worse it radiates up into my forehead..but most time is only dead center in my eyes and ice pack is only relief. Sometimes is mild pain but can be very severe and it lasts the whole day.

Good luck with your pain

If the doctors find nothing wrong it is very likely that the pain is a referral pattern from trigger points in the muscles of the neck and/or shoulders.

The sternocleidomastoid and trapezius among others have this pattern into and behind the eyes. A good massotherapist should be able to help you out.

Hi Hawk,

Yes, Yes, Yes, that is just how my headaches are. It feels like a headache behind you eyes and it just feel like so much pressure and you want to rip your eyes out. It drives me crazy. This is one of the symptoms that bother me the most!

As for pain right now, I am not doing a thing but taking OTC crap that does not work. I feel like I am going to snap any minute sometimes because the pain is so bad. I will finally have health insurance again in March so I can finally get some help again...
I have lived with this pain I suffer from for over 6 years and I am only 23. TMJ can cause so many problems, headaches, pain behind the eyes, pain in the face, cheeks, jaw, neck, back, ears, nasusa, tired all the time, ETC.
I was told the pain behind the eyes comes from clenching you teeth, if you go to a dentist he can make you a spint to wear..I have gone to over ten doctors/dentist and I cant find anyone to help me. :(Sometimes I feel like giving up, but I am telling you not to it will be hard because you wont find anyone to believe you, the one thing I found out was doctors dont like you telling them what is wrong, they want to figure it out on there own...god I hate doctors... Medical doctors say its dental, dental saids is medical. There are so many doctors and dentist out there that dont know about TMJ at all and claim they do. Please check out the TMJ board you will learn alot, go though all the old post as well....

let me know what happens, you will come across doctors that will say the pain behind your eyes is not TMJ and TMJ cant causes pain behind you eyes... dont believe them, it is the TMJ! I learn the hard way..

take care,
Starr

Hi Star I have seen you at the TMJ board and you are so right about TMJD causing the headaches. I have headaches every day...But the one I have right now concerns me a bit as it is different from my "typical" TMJ headache. yesterday morning I had an IVP done for my kidneys/bladder they inject a dye into your arm and take pictures. Anyway around 11 am I developed this headache it involves my entire head at first I thought it might be flu maybe since when I cough or sneeze my head wants to blow up. I have pain at the base of my skull, the top of my head, both temples, my forehead, my cheeks, the tops of my eyes where the eyelid meets the bone under the eyebrow and the bridge of my nose between my eyes. I thought it might be a reaction to the "dye" they used yesterday but I dont know. And I still have it today so that makes it over 24 hours and the meds I am on for my TMJD headaches arent touching it. Could this be a migrane or tension headache or some other type? I am pretty sure its not my "regular" TMJ headache...Any ideas what I can do or take for it since the stronger meds arent touching it should I try something simple like advil?

HiStarr - I have not "spoke" to you in awhile. Sounds like you are still going through the headache pain, like me. I agree with you that the "pain around/behind eyes" is the worst! It is so hard to concentrate at work thesedays!

If I find something that works, I will let you know. In a few weeks I am trying botox injections - I'll let you know how it goes (my ****ing insurance won't pick it up though - I hate insurance!). However, my doctor won't inject me in the jaw though, becasue she said it could "relax" the jaw muscles too much - I can't believe that!

Hey, aren't you a model? My wife used to model and she is thinking of getting pictures taken again, and going out to Cali or NYC. She has been in pharmaceutical sales for awhile, and she says before she gets too old, she wants to try the model thing again, maybe.

Take care, and watch out for that black cat!

Yep, sounds right to me. that would be the area to have worked.

Also on the sinus thoughts, you might take note if you take a lot of decongestants like pseudafed.
Next time you are having an allergy problem skip the decongestant and use an antihistimine.

Hi Everyone

AUTUMN: I have had the samething happen to me as well. Does it feel like you have to hold you head tight on both side to cough and the pain is everywhere in you your head. This happen to me about a month ago and took over 2 weeks to go away, I was really scared too I thought my brain was going to explode,I didnt know what was wrong... It is very painful, the only thing I did was squezze my head on both sides tight when I coughed and it helped a little. It is hard dealing with TMJ headaches and the sad part is there is not many and when I say not many I mean not many doctors that understand or will treat your TMJ. I have learned the hard way, I know more about TMJ then any doctor I know. Are you seeing a TMJ specialest right now? If you are I would mention it to him and see what he saids, or maybe you can research it on the internet. I get a lot of different types of headaches from my TMJ most of the time they are the same but they can change, your TMJ joint is so small but can cause so many problems to you. I see your on medication already, taking a Advil with help for the inflamation (sp) Do you take anything for that already?
Let me know how you are...

MBR: That is my biggest problem, I cant freaken concentrate at all, on anything and it drives me crazy..... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif Sometime I tie a banndanna around my head so tight and it helps a bit.....I know it is bad to do, but I cant stand the pain....
I heard botex could help..please let me know, that sucks they wont put it into the jaw where you need it most!!!! I hate insurance companys....they will cover everything but TMJ problems....

I didnt know I told you I model...lol...my memoroy has gotten so bad, and I fotget things so much now....I am such a old lady..... I harly do it anymore, once a week if I am lucky, it has gotten to the point it hurts so dam bad to smile, and my TMJ keeps getting worse, but I have model since I was 12, Do you need any advice or have Questions? I will be more then happy to help out. let me know....

Hows you 20 pound cat? havent seen the black cat lately....thank god...lol...what about you? :D

Take care,

Starr

Hi Starr - if botox works, I will let you know for sure. Thesedays, I don't get my hopes up for anything working though, because I get too depressed when it doesn't work.

Big cat is still big!

See, that's the problem with doctors, they do an xray, say things look okay and then they put you on meds! UNBELIEVABLE! That's the typical protocol for them. I would check with an allergist, do some allergy tests, and then check with a dentist, headaches often come from dental problems.

Hi N2golf,

My headaches are dental related, I have TMJ and suffer so bad but maybe some of the foods I am eating are whats making my headaches 10 X worse

Thanks for your input :)

Hi Stephanie,
What got rid of your headaches? Was you ever told they were sinus related?
I have seen several doctors and received about 4 different diagnosis. My pain is through the eyes and sometimes includes front top of my head. I think sometimes sinus plays a role but other times sinus just doesn't seem a factor. My headaches are frequent and random. Hoping they cease when weather gets warmer.
Thanks for sharing,
Patrick

I don't really know if I can offer anything, here, but I'll try. I've had a constant migraine (not a day without one) for almost 8 years. I was a junior in college, and BAMM! (Now I have one on both sides of my head.) I have doctored in Chicago (we live in Nebraska) for 6 or 7 years. Migraines are so difficult. The pain gets behind your eyes, along your cheekbones, in places you wish you could just cut off. Ice does wonders - frozen vegetables. Caps, with the adjustable tab on the back - cinch one up really tight and stick it on your head. Mine isn't TMJ related, so it might be different, but I get tense going down one side of my neck. My boyfriend will massage that for me, and sometimes it helps. Also, I have 3 different muscle relaxants available through my doctor. One, I take at night before I go to bed, and I have had a lot of luck with it - no morning pain. The second one, I take just when I need it. And the third one is an injectible. It is given in the thigh muscle. I would be very curious to find out how the botox injections go. Dang, they are expensive, aren't they!! I don't think I am quite that desperate, though, but will keep them in mind. Good luck, everybody! Hang in there.

HI MBR,

I went and saw a nero yesterday and boy he really pissed me off, I really hate being young, he didnt want to listen to me, and thought my headaches were from stress ! because I am a depress girl! Duh..I am stress because I am in pain and I am depressed because I cant find anyone to listen or believe me.

These doctors act like I am 12 years old, I am 23 and married, and they treat me like a child! I go with mom to the doctor and they so nice & caring and understanding, what the heck do I have to do, go buy a grey hair wig some glasses and a cane for them to listen to me!

The question I wanted to ask you is..How did the BOTOX help? He said the only thing left for me was to try it, I have an appointment April 15th, and I wanted to know if it helped you at all? I cant stand these headaches al all!

What medication are you taking for you headaches? I just want to compare medications with you, I have try everything under the sun and so far nothing has help, I have only been on the ones I am taking now for a few weeks, so I wanted to see if we are on the same things.

Hope to hear from you, I hope your fat cat didnt eat you! :nono:

Take Care,

Starr
