View Full Version : Does a low or non functioning gallbladder cause food to digest slower?

As I've mentioned before, I have a HIDA scan schedule for Monday. I know this checks for a malfunctioning gallbladder. I have noticed that when I eat a normal size meal, or even smaller meals, I'm stay full/satisfied for much longer than I normally would. I've always had a big appetite, especially if I miss a meal, but lately, I can have a small breakfast and still not be hungry until that night. Any correlation or does anyone have a similar experience?

Hi LAWoman75,

I can relate to what you're going through. I seem to get full quickly and stay full for longer than I used to. Like you, prior to all of this, I had a hearty appetite and could eat quite a bit without being full. But like you, I eat small meals now and can go hours before I'm even ready to eat again. I'm still awaiting the results of my HIDA, but I am wondering one thing: the docs always talk about the stabbing pain and whatnot, but I don't eat large fatty meals anymore. Plus, I would think that a non functioning gb would be different than one with stones in that one wouldn't have "attacks"-- because I thought attacks were caused by stones getting stuck in the bile ducts. Maybe I'm wrong.

Like you, I often feel stomach pain when I haven't eaten for a while-- maybe it's 'cause the food is taking it's time to digest....I really don't know. And within an hour of eating I often get squeezing pain in my chest and sometimes an acidy feeling in my throat. Don't think it's heartburn, but again, I'm frustrated in that my doc thinks my symptoms are not gb related, even though it seems like many of them are.....hmmmm?

I hope the HIDA provides you with the results you need to move forward with all of this! I am hoping it does for me, too. But I just don't know anymore. I'm coming up on one year of stomach problems, before which I could eat anything without a problem....so frustrating! I just wanna get back to that place....
