Hi All:
I am confused, I applied for SSD. I just got my court date. yipee
I have been disabled since 2000. But I applied for SSD in 2006. I was told that they go back to 2000 from my case worker. BUT then on this board it says 1 year minus 5 months?
So which is it guys?

The most backpay you will get is 12 mos. back from the date of your application from the date of onset (the date they consider you disabled). So if you applied in 2004 and have waited for 4 years for your answer, you are due alot of $$ but if you applied in 2007, say July 2007, you'd get back pay from July 2006 under the same circumstances. It's tricky.
We ended up having them keep my son's backpay because he was also eligible for SSI at the same time, which he received, and once you become eligible for SSDI you have to pay back the $$ because SSDI is considered income. You can't win with those people. So he gets SSDI based on my earnings and SSI only up to the difference of what he was getting on straight SSI! SSDI never changes though and SSI changes all the time based on your income.

Looks like you'd be eligible for back pay 12 mos. prior to the date of your application in 2005, IF they consider you disabled from 2000. They can always come up with a different date of disability. Still, not bad! Also, be aware that the money you get from backpay is fully taxable.

Hi Antique: I sware this is so confusing...
Do you also get money for your children? My hausband takes are of us?
So say I get approved when i go to court in March. How much do I get, they said I would get $800.00 a month.
Thanks
Jeane
PS What about my husband. I have a daughter from a differant marriage, and her dad never pays support. He owes 15,000.
