Hi girls,

Just wanted to see if I am being a bit paranoid so I figured I would ask my girls.Well I have noticed that my periods are just not lasting as long as they used to before IF treatments. My periods used to last for 4-5 days with pretty heavy flow for 3 days sometimes 4.Now I have noticed that AF is lasting only 2-3 days with only 2 days heavy flow and not very heavy.Well yes the first day is pretty heavy and sometimes day 2 but not like it used to.It has me a bit concerned that things arent flowing right and I am thinking its not a good thing.Maybe since I am almost 34 it is normal I dont know just concerned I guess. All this IF is stressful enough.Has anyone else noticed a change in their cycle?Other then that she is pretty normal still on time etc.Well thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Hi Mapia - I've actually noticed the same thing, although I'm unsure if it is related to IF treatments. Probably since July (when I last came off the pill) my periods have been 3-4 days only, heavy day 1 and moderate day 2, and light 3, 4, sometimes five. My periods during high school, before the pill, were always quite heavy, 7 days, and came every 3 weeks. Not sure if it's just age, or what. I'm 30, 31 in June this year. My only IF treatment was Clomid last cycle, and my period was the same. Just plain lighter in nature. But RE says I'm ovulating, so I'm not really worried yet.

I guess it's something to keep in mind. Wish you well.

Mapia--the same thing happened to me, I actually had 5 really heavy days then it went down to 1 heavy day and 4 spotting days.........I think it actually has to do with how much estrogen you have floating around in you and also from the hormones in any food you eat. My step daughter has quite heavy periods and the OB actually in a tactful way said they should get better if she lost a little wieght. Which was ironic because I notice as I gained weight my periods were heavier, too.........I also read how some elite athletes don't even get periods because they are in such good shape.......Estrogen likes fat cells so really fit people have less estrogen.......anyway I wouldn't worry much about it but maybe let you dr. know. :angel:AimeeM

And to Aimee's point, I've lost 15 lbs since July, from 137 to 122. So, I guess maybe the weight is a factor.

Hi Mapia! I have experienced the exact same thing!!! I worry myself about it every cycle. It's not like I ever had bad periods or super long ones, but prior to the IF treatments mine were 4 days with 2 of heavy/normal flow. Now I never have heavy flow, most cycles I won't even use a tampon or pad (sorry, prob way TMI). This really started happening after my ectopic and then D&C so I always thought it was somehow related, but that was over 1.5 yrs ago, so I'm not sure anymore. Well I would def talk to your RE about it the next time you see him.

Hope you have been feeling better. Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Mapia

I hope you are on the mend and that your tooth hasn't given you any more grief.

I haven't been on much the last couple of days but wanted to respond to your thread. The same thing has been happening to me the last few months too. I used to have extra long periods, lasting anywhere between 10-12 days. Since starting clomid they are much shorter (about 5 days) and not as heavy as they used to be. Infact, by day three I only get light spotting. Unfortunately they are still as painful as ever before if not worse. I'm not sure about the weight thing as I have actually gained about 8 kilos this year.

I hope you are not too worried and that our posts have been able to reassure you that you are not alone.

Love Ruby

Hi ladies thank you so much for all your help and experiences.I just figure maybe things are just not right if I am not bleeding as much.I know I am O'ing so I guess thats what matters.Next time I see RE I will mention it to him.As for the weight thing I have gained about 20 pounds since starting IF treatment. So if anything I should be bleeding more then right? But another thing is my nutriotionist says I have a lot more muscle then fat well in any case I am not going to worry about it.The good thing is since we are leaving today to go to DH's beach house we get to have some fun with DH.;)Today is day 4 and I am free and clear..........lol.Well ladies I am feeling better its the tooth I still have to watch out cant chew anything on that side.Other then that all is good.Well SIL is waiting for me to go pick her up so we can head to the beach in the middle of the winter...........lol.Well have a great weekend I will have to catch up on threads when I get back.

Love ya all,

Mapia

Hi Mapia -

Sorry I am posting a bit later, and you may be gone already, but I hope that all is well (and that your tooth isn't bothering you either!). I hope you have a great time at the beach and that you get to relax with DH!!! So, he got some time off of work for a bit? Have fun!!!

AF has also shortened for me -- 7+ days when I was younger, then down to 4-5, and now since IF treatments, down to 3 days. When I asked my initial OBGYN, she told me that was perfectly normal. That part of it is that age, and the other part of it is that the IF treatments jump start your cycle a bit, and that they can cause a change as well. Hope that helps, but I'd ask your RE as well.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Mapia,

I hope you're having a great weekend away! I've noticed a change in my cycles as well since starting IF treatments. I can't say that AF has shortened, but my cycles have definitely gotten a bit whacky. I used to have regular 28 - 30 days cycles, and now they are a bit unpredictable. Sometimes AF shows up as much as a week early, sometimes a week late, and other times she shows up right on time. I definitely think the treatments have something to do w/ it. I try not to worry about it & hope that as long as I am O'ing everything is alright. Not sure if that's the right attitude or not, but it seems to be working for me. ;)

It seems to me like a lot of us are experiencing changes w/ AF. If you do ask your RE about it, I'd be interested to hear what he has to say. Again, have a great weekend!!

Holly :)

My period has changed since I started taking Follistim. My periods used to last 5-7 days and now I have a period for 3 days. By the fourth day I have no spotting at all. The length between my periods are longer now too. My periods used to be 28-30 days. Now it is more like 35 days between periods. Also, my periods are way more painful than before. My RE said it has to do with me making several eggs and when they do not get fertilized they get discarded during my AF, which can be painful. A couple months the pain was almost as bad as the labor pains I had with my son.

Mapia AF for me had been very wacky. Some months AF lasts for 5-7 days and my cycles are generally very long, anything between 32-40 days. This months AF lasted for 9 days. AF disappeared just before we had to BD.

How was your weekend at the beach? I hope you had an awesome time and got to relax a bit.

Hi Ladies and thank you all for your input it helps to know that its pretty normal. It just had me concerned and since I havent seen RE in so long I figured I would ask you all. When I do see RE I will ask him at least I hope I remember to ask him.

The good thing with AF being shortened was that DH and I got to enjoy ourselves last night being away and all...........lol.No Kelley DH dident take time off work inlaws beach house is not to far from the city so he met up with me after he was done with work.He has way to much work to take off.It might not have been a total getaway but it was better then nothing and it was real nice. The weather was amazing in the 50's and sunny all weekend so that was nice considering its Jan.Thanks for asking girls.Hope you are all well and having a nice weekend.

Love,

Mapia

Hi Mapia,

I'm glad you had a nice weekend!!! I bet it's really beautiful there at the beach!! Visiting an island somewhere in Greece is still my #1 dream vacation... someday!!! It's good you were able to get away, even if it wasn't too far -- I actually think those are the BEST getaways, because all of the traveling and such isn't involved. And, since the beach house is closer, hopefully you can go there a bit more often!

I hope you are feeling well, and that you're enjoying your evening!

Love,
Kelley
