legranh 01-25-2008, 08:37 PM what are the physical change at age 40 Sponsor kathryn+2 02-02-2008, 11:39 AM Well for sure your eyesight gets bad. Most people get glasses around that age. I had perfect eyesight untill I hit 40. But from the ripe old age of 56 ,I can say in hindsight i was still very fit and healthy at 40. It's around 50 that I first noticed changes. I'm not as strong ,muscles tire more easily , not as much stamina., hormonal changes. With all the emphasis on healthy aging ,I'm sure there are lots of books out there that can explain the aging process. deeannek 02-08-2008, 05:13 AM I'd say it depends on how you treated your body in your twenties. TEdwards83 02-09-2008, 02:40 PM I noticed at 40 that I was about reading for reading glasses. Things up close became blurry. ugh! I am 43 and got them this past year. I don't just bounce right out of bed anymore. I am stiffer ha! and I need to do stretches. I developed hypothyroidism at age 42. No one in my family has this. This has been a trying thing to deal with as well. It sometimes happens with age. But not to everyone. I hate getting older. I am going to fight it every step of the way. Just take care of yourself! Eat right and exercise. Thats all we can do. :) Tammy Boozjee 02-20-2008, 08:01 PM what are the physical change at age 40It's unique for everyone. It depends on how you took care of yourself up to that point. You could look old or you could still look young. Linda_in_NJ 02-21-2008, 12:14 PM My experience when turning 40 was that sex was even better;). I was in great shape, still turned a few heads and felt good. Now 50 is another story lol. chelynn1953 02-21-2008, 07:32 PM I didn't notice anything at 40, but 50 is another matter altogether. I'm 54 and it's hard to get up when you kneel down to look at things on a bottom shelf (at the library or store, for instance). And now I'm getting lovely crepey skin on my arms and legs. My face is pretty young looking, living in Florida for over 30 years, I made sure I used sunscreen. I hate aging. I hate seeing the old me go, and knowing it's never going to be the same again. Who's going to look at saggy old me now? I would have liked a chance to date and have some fun, but since I'm shy and quiet, it's hard to make friends. It's depressing..... younggranny 02-22-2008, 03:30 PM i really never noticed any physical changes at 40, except for my eye sight and i don't think i noticed a change with that until about 45..then about 46 started to become achy and tired and ended up with hypothyroidism. Also at 44 became a grandma to twins..now i am 48 and starting to notice some sagging, but still feel pretty good. Forty is still young.... Titchou 02-22-2008, 06:54 PM what are the physical change at age 40 None. You'll wake up at 40 the same as you did the day before at 39. KittyLove 02-22-2008, 09:43 PM I turned 40 two months ago, but about two years ago I started to notice that my skin is changing. It's drier and has a different texture. I've also noticed that the veins in my arms and legs are more noticeable. My hands are starting to look like something from a horror movie. It's also harder to lose weight and I definitely feel flabbier. I also notice that my laugh lines are getting deeper. Marywoo 03-11-2008, 06:01 AM I was really depressed when I came across all your posts and you all made me smile THANKYOU,Im 48 and have declined alot.Im blind as a bad when I got glasses I got coke bottles.my body which use to be in shape is just comlpletely falling apart,Im eating like its the last day on earth, dont get me wrong I was never drop dead gorgous, but im just realizing LOL.I can honestly say now when I get a big zit,I say thankyou lord because I know there must some oil left in my skin.the only advice I can give is DONT fight it,youll just exhaust yourself, this is out of our control, and it really is supposed to teach us a lessen, its really not about LOOKS even thou were fed that message dailey, age will not take away your real beauty, which is in side and radiates to others when you talk with them you cant hide inner beauty,so cheer up,by the way I decided i needed to change so I got my 80s hair cut yesterday and honest to God I look just like the little Dutch boy which is not what I was going for,and sad thing is he looks better HA HA HA,dont mean to offend anybody just trying to keep spirits uo.How do you think im doing? everybody have a great day. marywoo {A.K.A.THE LITTLE DUTCH BOY:D:D TEdwards83 03-18-2008, 08:22 PM Does anyone get any muscle twitches in their 40's? I keep having tests run and the doctor can't find anything wrong. I do have hypothyroidism and low calcium. I have been treatin the hypothyroidism for 2 years now and have been on calcium supplements for almost a month. When do the muscle twitches stop? They don't hurt by they drive me crazy when I am sitting still or trying to go to sleep. grinch13 03-19-2008, 08:51 PM I'd say it depends on how you treated your body in your twenties. I treated my body like dog-doo in my 20s. WAY too much drinking. What can I expect now? (I am 39) snowmelts 03-24-2008, 10:58 PM You guys make me laugh. I've worn glasses since first grade! I'm 60, almost 61 now. Let me tell you life DOES begin at 40 ( at least for us people whose kids hit 18 about then.) 40 = empty nest = renewed privacy = freedom to be yourself again for the first time since being a teenager. I found a whole new me!!!! At 40 I obtained a brand new B.S degree (yeah, it took me awhile but I had been busy being a mommy) At 40 I moved from Indiana to Florida and changed my life entirely. YEP 40's were fantastic. A great decade for me. Sure I did have some permanent unhappy physical things happen but were not "age related" (except for menopause.) My 40's were my decade to shine. Loved my 40's. 50's not so great... Oh yeah and at 51 I moved back to the ice and snowy Indiana. I think it's called "Over the hill" when you hit 50 because each year after that your energy and health just slides downhill a tad more. At 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 you don't really notice it except for little things. By 55 you begin to notice those tads have mounted up quite a bit. By 60 the saying "Feeling old" today has a real meaning. Getting harder to keep up the energy. The joints are painfully going. Perscriptions are common conversation and Dr's are discussed with friends just like we used to talk about the latest movie. Glasses No, glasses aren't a problem... Cataracts are a problem ( yep this is the kind of discussion we have in 6th decade LOL). music47 03-24-2008, 11:27 PM Legr When I turned forty I started putting on weight because my metabolism slowed down, and I had less energy. In my opinion not drinking or smoking has improved my general health although I do have arthritis. Sincerely Nadine:) hotdam 03-25-2008, 12:10 AM I turned 46 in December and I have noticed my laugh lines getting more noticeable, my neck is starting to look old, oh yea the glasses thing need the reading ones, I already wear prescription. I smoke for 30 years but have quit, I gained weight also due to the wonderful slowing metabolism, so I started to work out everyday and its looking good. My goal now is to stay healthy and try to look better at my age. Although people still cannot believe I have a 21 year old, they say I look in my late 30's who knows maybe they are being nice because I sure dont think I look like it. Aging sucks.;) RunnerMac 03-26-2008, 01:12 PM Athletically I didn't notice any change at all until I was about 43. Then my times in races dropped a bit and it was harder to race as often. That stayed pretty much the same until my early 50's when they took another hit. This one is bigger and injuries are harder and longer to heal. The 40's are a breeze with minor changes if you take care of yourself, the 50's are tougher. Oleander53 03-29-2008, 07:37 PM Hindsight>>> I was awesome in my 40's and did not realize it........at 54 now this year I really can see a difference in my skin, muscle tone and upper body strength......sex is the best now. I seem to be happier and more confident...I wish I looked as sexy as I feel. I look in the mirror and wonder who that older woman is? LOL I have to work out daily......my butt is getting flat !!!! LOL never dreamed I would have a flat butt...loss of muscle mass.....my muscle tone in my arms and stomach is not so hot.......have to work hard on that at the gym.... Closeup vision has been gone since age 51 and distance is changing just this year.. Starting to have problems with my teeth......never had a problem before....crowns and bridges....: ( big expense on teeth this year..... I am now on thyroid medication, blood sugar medications for insulin resistance and high blood pressure medication.....: ( all this year. I am also going into menopause late.......but my symptoms are few, menopause seemed to trigger my thyroid and other problems...they all came at the same time. I recommend.... Gym daily or walk daily and use hand weights... Yoga is great for aging Good skin and body care freqent dental visits stop smoking........I have 10 years under my belt now......it was hard minimal alcohol eat good.....remove processed foods and sugars I take garlic and fish oil, calcium supplement.......drink lot's of water. Be happy and have fun.......try to be unstressed........my biggest problem If I knew at 40 what I knew today? I would have quit smoking sooner, increased my exercise, changed my diet sooner, saw a dentist more frequently. Spent more time with my parents...........Live more in the moment and realize how young 40 really is......Had more fun........been a little more wicked.......: ) Hope this helps someone.........Love, Oleander snowmelts 03-29-2008, 07:47 PM ...........Live more in the moment and realize how young 40 really is......Had more fun........been a little more wicked.......: ) Hope this helps someone.........Love, Oleander NOW THAT is great advice no matter what age one is. I spend too much time waiting for .. you know, the appointment next week and such things... I really should do more with the current 24 hours. Seems like ages since I did fun & wicked :D Gonna give that some thought, sounds like good medicine. |
