Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I had my first fertility appointment on January 4, 2008. My DH went with me. My doctor asked us a bunch of questions, did an exam and said that everything feels normal. We told her that we have been trying for 2 years to conceive and she set me up for an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram). She also set my DH up for a semen analysis. Which is to be done on February 5, 2008.

I went for my HSG this past Tuesday and I was a nervous wreck, from all the horror stories that I have read, online. I got the procedure done and when the doctor injected the dye in my uterus, it felt like mild cramps like when you first get your period. Thank God that was the only pain I experienced!! After the procedure was done, the doctor showed me my x-rays and explained everything to me. It was really cool to see my uterus, fallopian tubes & ovaries on the screen! The doctor told me that the dye spilled out from my fallopian tubes and I was extremely happy, cause that means that my tubes are not blocked :). I think that they might have been blocked a little when he first injected the dye, cause he had me roll over on my left side and then on my right side and then took the x-ray. I also think that, cause there was some discharge after the procedure was done. I am wondering what the next step in this fertility process is. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi! That is GREAT news that your HSG didn't hurt and even better that your tubes are clear! Yaaaay! I'm going through the whole process now, and unfortunately I have blocked tubes, but I do know that the next steps after HSG and S/A include a lot of blood work and a lot of questions. I think then they determine what other tests you'll need. Please don't quote me on this; I'm still a newbie. Just wanted to comment that a good HSG is great news. Good luck!! :) Laurie

That's good news that your HSG turned out okay (my RE had told me before the procedure that the radiologist would have me roll to the left and the right to take the film, so the dye could spill out properly, so it sounds like your tubes are definitely clear!)! Laurie is right - a SA and lots of bloodwork aside from sitting down and discussing diagnosis and options with your RE.

I wish you all the best, and I hope that you get your BFP very soon!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had my second fertility appointment on February 7, 2008. It was for a follow up on the tests that my DH and I had. My husband's SA was good. She said that the volume on his SA was a little low, but the sperm count and everything else that goes with the SA, was excellent, so that makes up for the low volume. So, there is nothing wrong with him. She told me that my tubes are clear, which I already knew that, cause the doctor that did my HSG had told me that.

She had taken blood, at my first appointment, to check my thyroid and it turns out that I have an underactive thyroid. She put me on Synthroid. Which I've been taking for almost 1 month. The next step for me, is to continue taking my Synthroid. She wants me to have 2-3 periods, while on the Synthroid, before she starts everything else and puts me on Clomid. She said that your thyroid causes you to not ovulate. So, she is thinking that is what is wrong with me. This whole infertility thing is soooo depressing!!! I can't wait until I finally become pregnant. I'm hoping that when I do go on the Clomid, that it works for me.
