Hi all,
I've been placed on Lyrica for a few weeks now and I have been so dizzy since. I thought it would go away after a few weeks but it is still here. I also take MS Contin 30 mg twice daily and didn't have it with that alone. Could it be the combo, am I just not tolerating the Lyrica? Any words of wisdom would be welcome. I have attempted to call the doc twice but both times, the office was closed at odd times of the day so I thought I would reach out to others here in the mean time.
Thanks a million!
Lisa

Lisa...So sorry you're dealing with this! :( I, too, was prescribed Lyrica, and on top of the horrid abdominal pain it caused, the dizziness was so annoying. I couldn't tolerate it. I would think you should have been "undizzy" (is that a word??) by now, if you were going to be able to tolerate the Lyrica. I'd call and demand to speak to someone, as you may need to taper now (or just quit if you're on a low dose). Prayin' for you!! I'm now trying Topamax, and it's not NEAR as bad. Good luck!! :)

i agree with pain up there.this side effect should have left you by now if it was planning on leaving you.lyrica is one of those meds that can work wonders for you or litterally shut you down.it did that to me.but it also helped with my pain and swelling from my RSD.so i held on for three weeks hoping things would change, but they actually became worse.
i had some pretty extreme side effects with this med, probably the worst of any other med i have ever tried before.it gave me up and down type double vision, not the "normal side to side stuff?very crazy.but this also made my head really foggy and i did feel quite stupid on it.i lost all real coordination in my legs.it felt like i had just consumed a six pack or something.couldn't walk straight down my hallway, kept on veering to the left no matter how slowly i walked.but the worst thing for me personally is it made my already over enlarged kidneys(i have polycystic kidney disease)swell up so bad it actually popped my right kidney out of the normal posistion in the back to the very front.it is still currently running alongside my ribcage, over my stomach and impinging on my lung and my diaphram.not good.and this was like two years ago when i tried it.this also gave me some really insane nightmares, some really gruesome.nasty stuff for me.i would most defintiely speak with your doc about this to see if maybe even lowering your dose might help or just tapering off and trying something else.it all depends on how much you are willing to accept as that "trade off" ya know?but you are not alone with having side effects from this particular med.some, like me,had very extreme reactions, and some it has no effects on.i wish you luck and hope you can find something that works without the nasty side effects.Marcia

I, too, had the dizziness, brain fog and horrible nightmares.
I guess when it works, it's a great med but for some of us it just doesn't do it.
I hope you find the med that works for you.~Mush

Wow, now I am dizzy and scared! Oh my goodness. I am so glad that I posted this question. I've been itching like crazy too and looking back, my husband said it is since the meds. The abdominal pain, thought that might be from the MS Contin but not so sure now....I think I will definately make that call tomorrow. Thank you so much for your replies.
Feelbad, man oh man I can't even imagine a medicine doing that to anyone. My heart goes out to you. I pray things will go back to where they belong and you don't have ill effects down the road.
Painaway, I'm terrified of Topamax too, if that is the right med I am thinking of. My mother was given it for migraines instead of Immetrex and she had such a severe reaction to her joints that she couldn't even dress herself. This was after 1 1/2 days of the med. It wasn't listed as a side effect but she got something nasty from it. Could have been a reaction with her other meds too. Not sure but if you are ok on it now, no need to worry about that. Thanks again for your replies!
Love,
Lisa

Lisa your post and another one on the back board has helped me piece together some balance issues that I have been having. I had a couple prior to cymbalta but since I have been on cymbalta I am having falling issues 2 to 4 times a day. I have also had a couple of dizzyness issues that I have had to drink massive orange juice to and just sit to get myself back together. It is amazing what these meds can do to you. I have been on the cymbalta about 3weeks now. Just wanted to share with you that Lyrica is probably a problem for you.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Lisa,
I am on Lyrica and it works wonders for me although it does make me tired and gives me some brain fog although I am on the max dose of 600mg/day. If you are still having really bad dizziness after 4 weeks then its time to get off of it. Please make sure you titrate down or you will experience withdrawal symptoms which are not fun at all. I would suggest trying Neurontin. It is similar to Lyrica but for a lot of people that do not tolerate one they can tolerate the other medications. Get a hold of your doctor somehow and say I can't tolerate this medication anymore.
As for the itching, I would say that is probably from the MSContin. How bad is the itching. You could always take an antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec (just recently became OTC) and that should take care of the itching. Hope that helps.

My husband just tried Lyrica. He could only stand it for about 5 days. It definitely helped his pain, but the side effects were intolerable. It made him dizzy, "strange" in his head, huge appetite increase (he was eating something all the time), horrible bad dreams, & extreme mood swings. He had an "exaggerated sense of well-being" and a short while later would be in tears and not know why. It was scary. While everything says that it makes you sleepy, it had just the opposite effect on him. It made him "hyped up", and yes, he definitely had more energy. But he couldn't sleep starting the very first night on it. After about 5 days, he said he couldn't stand it anymore and quit. The really sad thing about it however, it that it DID help his pain and fatigue. He started out taking 50 mg. at bedtime for 3 days, and then, was told to increase it to 50 mg. 2x day. I think that he increased the dosage much to quickly. I just know that it had terrible side effects for him.

Well, I called my doctor on Monday and left a message with the nurse. She has YET to call me back. This is an ongoing problem with her as other attempts have been futile as well. I've mentioned it to the doc but now I will be forced to give him an earfull. It is so hard to find doctors we like and trust, we shouldn't have to look elsewhere because their staff won't do their jobs. I'm so angry. I wrecked my car last night and thank the lord no one got hurt or hurt my back worse. (a litte bit of discomfort but I have had worse.) Coming off of the interstate off ramp and the guy ahead of me decided to turn right on red so as I scooted up, he slams on the brakes and crash, so quick. Could the Lyrica cause me to misjudge that badly, probably. I stopped taking it last night and called the pharmacist today to see how I need to do that. I haven't itched today so I am wondering if that was the Lyrica too, won't know for a few days. I normally don't drive if I feel too dizzy and I didn't feel all that dizzy at all yesterday but this just goes to show that we really need to have a grip on how our meds make us feel prior to getting on the road.... Just another thing to make me feel rotten about. I've never been in the driver's seat of an accident prior to last night.

The itching will go away when I first started taking my Oxycontin I itched for alittle while but it goes away after awhile give it acouple weeks or so .. then u should notice some type of a change .. and for the Lyrica I take Nerontin and by its self it doesnt do anything for me but make me dizzy and stuff that will past soon u have to start at a low dosage and increase slowly over a 3 week span.. I take Nerontin and Oxycontin together that is the only way they work ... try that Im pretty sure if u stop the mscontin the other wont work by itself or it will be way less affective.. (I mean if u have nerve damage) that is what i have.. It works for other injuries too.. Im not sure about them though..
I hope I help some what If u got anyother questions for me just post back.. k
Peace,
