View Full Version : Question for those that had a HIDA and watched the screen

I had my HIDA with cck today. Mine was different than many I've read about. They put the first stuff in that made my g/b glow bright white after about 30 minutes. After one hour and 10 minutes, they added a small IV drip bag of the CCK and they told me it would automatically shut off after 30 minutes. At the end of the test, my g/b didn't appear to have any more of the glowing stuff that was added in the beginning but right under my g/b was a large "ball" of the glow. Beyond that, was even whitish coloring that followed into my intestines.

Due to the fact that it appeared that the stuff had left my g/b, would that have any indication of whether the g/b is emptying normal? I also never saw my g/b move or "contract" at all and I had originally thought that was something that most people were able to see with the HIDA?

For those that watched the screen, what did you see and was your cck injected in a similar fashion?

It's hard to say, since I'm not a tech that works with HIDA scans... but it does sound like it was functioning. I never saw my white blob move, but when they injected the CCK I was in a lot of pain with severe nausea so I stopped watching. I looked back and it did appear to be above my gallbladder still. My GB wasn't functioning at all (0%) so it's obviously at the extreme, I don't know what a slow GB function would look like on screen.

Hey LAWoman,

I was too far away from the screen to see anything....the CCK injection didn't make me sick, but I think I mentioned that my doc said I definitely have delayed emptying. Don't know the ejection fraction though-- I called my doc and he hasn't gotten back to me. I really wasn't aware of what was going on while I was laying there, but I know that they infused the CCK injection in 3 minutes. I heard that's supposed to make the test more sensitive, but who knows? Let us know when you get the results...good luck!

I had a friend with me and we laughed afterwards at the fact that us two ameteurs were trying to decipher a nuclear medicine test, lol. I should be able to find out something this morning because the tech told me he would have my results to my dr. by the end of the day yesterday.
