I have been taking Premarin for at least 15 years and want to stop. Have any of you took the drug for a long time and abruptly quit? Did you experience any adverse side-effects? I asked my GYN about this and he said I did not have to "wean off" the drug, I could just stop. I guess my concern is, if I do this will the hot flashes start again?

Thank you.

Hi GeorgiaGirl404,

I would never just stop taking a med I have taken that long. I would slowly wean off it and it is possible you will have the hot flashes come back. My mother and Aunt have both tried a few times to go off Premarin (they have been on over 30 years) and each time they have menopause issues return. I was on it two years and slowly weaned off it only to have hot flashes and night sweats return. But this time I am going to try and stick it out. It is worth a try, but do it slow, in my opinion.
Julie:)
