HELP! I am getting so frustrated. I've always had migraines but in the last three months, I've had them very often plus rebound headaches and it escalated into taking lots of over-the-counter medicine and lots of imitrex. So on Monday a doctor prescribed me a steroid pack, which I need to take for next 6 days, and then start with Topomax. It's my second day on steroids and I've had the worst migraine - not even Imitrex helped. Does anybody has experience with the steroids? Can I stop taking them?

Last year, my headaches were getting so bad, my doc thought they were rebound headaches, and so she gave me prednisone for a couple weeks with tapering doses every 3 days. I was scared at first since people can have bad reactions to steroids, but I actually enjoyed it. I had a couple bad headaces in the beginning, but had tons of energy and felt pretty good. When I was done taking it (14 days later), I was headache free for 3 weeks about. Of course, that was only temporary and now I get them daily pretty much. It was also hard on my stomach, but she prescribed zantac with it.
As far as stopping taking them, I read that its hard to get off steroids when your on them for long periods like over a year or so. But the prescription you have is probably to start at a high dose and taper daily right? If that's the case then, no problems should arise.
