My Neurologist told me to stop eating chinese food. I said "OK, I'll just deal w/shrimp fried rice". Doc said, "that too"! I was like http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/mad.gif http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

Doc stated even though the chinese restaurants/take-outs (no matter how expensive and/or where located) tell you THEY do not use and/or put MSG in their food/cooking the food PACKAGING MAY HAVE MSG (which the chinese have no control over). http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif
Also, some "unknown" sauce or spice is used that causes migraines. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif The medical doctors think it may be a combination of all the incrediates causing the migraines. Not sure.

* Orental food is cooked the way AMERICANS like it*[/b]

If you want migraine free oriental food, go to Asia and Japan. Otherwise, stay away from it or just order plain white rice which is actually quite good.

i am half chinese and eat chinese food all the time , home cooked and from restraunts sp? also a migraine sufferer, the last time i had a migraine was the day i made homemade potstickers and eggrolls along with deep fried shrimp, duck eggs, and rice
but i don't think it was the trigger , the only thing i bought from the chinese grocer was the wrappers and the package of tempura flour, and i don't add msg, the day before when i was driving home from the store i did have partial blindness in my eye so i knew a migraine was coming on but it didn't hit till the next day,

You need to check the "incrediantes". Especially if you have been getting migraines all your life and eating the same foods being 1/2 chinese. One and/or all the incrediantes is/are the triggers.
(You're non chinese half is having the migraines http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif if that is possible!)

MSG is so hard to avoid, if you buy any premade foods like french fries, soups, speghettios (sp?), those new boxed meals "homestyle bakes", Voila frozen meals. I think its really hard to avoid it!

I have read that not every time will it trigger a migraine, it just depends on what your headache threshhold is at that particular time. Not sure if this is true or not ???

Depends on the type of flour, incrediants (seasoning) & oil used.

Fried fish & chicken does not bother me. I have always used virgin olive oil <~~No I am not Mrs Godfather. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Not all people have the same migraine triggers. Although MSG is a common migrained trigger it is not a trigger for everyone. All people need to try to figure out what their triggers are and avoid them as much as possible.

mlgable,
You are correct. I look at migraines like this:
Migraines are like fingerprints. Everyone suffers from them differently from everyone else. No one has the exact same symptoms as someone else, no one has all of the exact same triggers as someone else. Reason why it is so difficult to treat.

Example: Caffine is suppose to be a main trigger. For me, I drink a Pepsie (normally a migraine party http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) w/my prescription because it works faster! Go figure http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif
