Can some of you please give me a little insight to what your side effects are regarding Immetrex. My doctor prescribed it to me but i am scared to take it because of possible side effects that it may cause. Also, how about Excedrin Migraine.?....

The most common side effect of imitrix is your chest tightening. This feeling will go away after an hour or two at most. And you will either have this feeling the first time you use it or you wont. You will know right away if you are going to have this side effect or not. Most people do not. I have side effects and am real sensative to almost all meds. However, Imitrix doesn't bother me. Thank God! I get cluster headaches and migraines and rely on Imitrix several times a day to get through. Good luck. You will like how imitix gets rid of the nasty headache so fast and kills all the ha effects nausea, light and sound sensativity etc. It is a good medicine.

Excedrin Migraine is (and a lot of people don't know this) simple Ibrophen! It says it right on the label. Its exactly the same thing - so if Motrin doesn't help your migraines, neither will Excedrin Migraine. I believe its a lot more expensive too. What a rip off. If people would just read labels more often. . . I've also wondered about Maxalt, which is also a migraine medication my doctor prescribed. I am also afraid to take it for fear I'll get the chest tightening side effect, and I will feel like I can't breathe. That would FREAK ME OUT. So, I'm also asking - does it feel at all like you can't breathe?

Hi! I have been taking Imitrex in the nasal spray form for almost a year now. It is the most wonderful drug ever invented!! i was scared too at first, after reading about all of the possible side effects. My doctor assured me that those drug companies have to include everything that MAY happen to anyone, in order to cover their asses from lawsuits. He told me that most people only report a "weird" feeling. He said they are not really able to describe it, just that it's weird. So, I tried it with the very next headache I had. I did feel "weird", and he was right, I couldn't really describe it. My chest never felt tight, although my jaw did feel tight. Not painful though, just tense. The weird feeling went away after about 15 minutes, and my headache was gone 5 minutes after that. My headaches used to last for weeks at a time, sometimes so bad I couldn't even talk. So I will be more than glad to put up with the weird feeling for a few minutes!! Don't worry too much about the side effects. I will never be without this medicine again!!
Good luck!

Yes you can still breath while your chest is tightening. Although if this side effect happens you should let your dr. know and not take the medicine again.

Excedrin Migraine medicicine didn't help me at all. I use Imitrex for migraines. I don't have any side effects with it and I am very sensitive to most medicines. If you take Imitrex, you have to be sure you have a migraine when you take it, which I'm sure you'll know! Just be sure not to take it for a regular headache.

Actually, I hope I don't sound to be picking a fight or anything, but Excedrine migraine is really a dose of tylenol, caffeine and aspirin. Many people do like it due to the caffiene gettng it into their system quicker! I got horrible stomach pains from it from the asprin in it.
The thing that is a scam is Motrin migraine and Advil migraine. I asked a pharmacist once and she said the only difference is the label! However having their ibuprofen in liqui-gels is pretty cool since it works faster.
My migraine fix is zomig, but the side effects can be dibilitating (spelled right?), but sometimes I take Amerge, which has almost no side effects but takes over an hour sometimes to work. Zomig is quick acting so thats why I still use it.
Don't be scared of the side effects, they can be weird, but its not like you feel like your dying or anything, its just uncomfortable.

I have been taking imitrex for almost 6 years now. I have used the pills, the shots and the nasal spray. All work well although the nasal spray made my throat feel funny. I have at various times in my life experienced the chest tightening that you have described. It is an odd sensation but I feel it mostly when I use the injections than the pills. I do not like it but it is MUCH better than the migraine. My Physician (who is a headache specialist how is VERY well known) Has informed me that I will expierence this side effect more if I wait to take the medication instead of taking it at the first symptom. I have found this to be true. It has something to do with the inflammtion/irritability of the nerves. But use caution. Imitrex is a very powerful medication. You need to be under the close care of a physician esp if you have any risks for heart disease. Never ignore side effects such as chest tightening. ALWAYS address it with your physcian. If you are not happy with you doctor or your results seek out someone else. Not every doctor has the right answer for every patient no matter how good they are.

i've been using imitrex for 5-6 years now. the pills don't do anything for my migraines, but the injections help a lot. the side effects i get are dizziness, drowsiness, and muscle aches.
if you had chest tightening and problems breathing, possibly you were having an anxiety attack. when i get anxiety attacks i get chest pains, difficulty breathing, heart palpitations, etc.
