I suffer from pretty much daily migraines per my neurologists.I have been on pamelor which worked ok for awhile. Now I have a choice of a beta blocker or topomax.I would like to hear some of your opinions in regards to which works better and or possible side effects..Just found this site and I think it is a great form full of good information. Thanks

i suffer from daily headaches and about 20+ migraines per month and am currently on disability. i've been on several beta blockers - none have helped with my migraines. the side effects for the beta blockers are very minimal compared to most of the other meds they use for migraine prevention. if you have asthma, keep in mind that while on a beta blocker, if you have an acute asthma attack, you will not respond to epinephrine.

last year i was on topamax for several months. it made me feel sicker and very "fuzzy headed" and i also gained weight from it. i've been on very many "preventative migraine medications" over the past six years and have responded to none, except for bad side effects. i hope you have better luck.

if you don't have asthma, i'd recommend trying the beta blockers first. hope this helps.
