Ok guys made it through Decompression surgery not fun as you can imagine. After waking up in recovery I could not stop coughing from the tube they put down the throat, very sore & my luck that the scapula hurt right when waking up. I was hoping the nerve block would take care of that for most of the day. My left eye was swollen along with my hand but that has gone down. It is down right painful, up most of the night, still hurts to swallow.
I felt like I was on an assembly line at the hospital, rush, rush, rush, two people asking me questions at once, & I was so tired, terrable when you don't have your coffee in the morning (ha). I expect the next few days to be pretty bad, in fact the next couple months are probably not going to be a cake walk. As long as in the long run it works.
The nurse said the symptoms I was having in my hand (before surgery)was not coming from the shoulder but from the neck, great. Although this surgeon is suppose to be good he does not go into detail or explain alot, I did not speak to him after surgery my husband did & once we got home he realized the doc did not go into really what to expect. Any movement causes pain, not comfortable at all.
Marcia, Hopefully you are just getting the rotator cuff done, the lady who had hers done a couple weeks ago is doing really good, as long as she does not over do it. We will see how it goes today. Thanks for being there,
Chab how is your daughter doing? I said a prayer yesturday morning. I hope all went well & you are taking care of yourself.
Chrissy, once again us turtles will walk this road of recovery together, painful as it is. I am holding your hand mentally, with the hand that don't hurt of course (ha). Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts & wonderful advice. Sammy
ps. Marcia,
'torture chair" to be delivered today(this evening), along with another goody, can't imagine using that chair today, whole left side hurts, I will let you know what the chair is like, they said the doc. prefers the chair to be used with two different exercise, OMG, today I will just make friends with it & see what happens.

Dear Sammy...wow..I am surprised you are home already! I thought they would keep you for a day or so. Did you come right home the day of the surgery? Goodness, you sure did get rushed....rushed right out of there! But, I am so glad it is all over for you, and I hope you are having success with the pain control so far. Oh no.....not neck problems now.....I was hoping this operation would take care of everything. Why was your eye and hand swollen? Especially your eye? Please, please be careful now and try not to move too much for a few days. I imagine your right about the next few days being bad for you...so take those pain meds and hope they help.
My daughter made it through...took 5 hours, and I thought I would have a nervous breakdown waiting. Doctor said the lymph nodes looked good, but waiting for the biopsy to confirm that. He got all the tumor from the tongue, and didn't have to do a skin graft. She is in intensive care and on a treachea, but doing ok. She can't talk, hasn't eaten for 2 days, but holding her own. we are hoping they remove the treachea tomorrow. Thanks so much for your prayer..I also was doing the same for you yesterday. Hope I never have to see her go through this again. Makes my heart hurt.
But, glad your home and have a good talk with your doctor and hopefully he can explain things better to you. I will be thinking of you and still sending prayers your way. God heard mine, thank goodness, and I know he is listening!
Take care, Sammy, and keep sending updates. I know we aren't suposed to talk about other stuff on here, and I need to thank the moderator for allowing me to post about my daughter. I am going to find the proper forum (cancer forum) to continue updating you on things.
Stay strong, and hope you have a restful night.
Best Wishes,
Judy

Praise be to god, chab. That is good news. We have not been that lucky with our family, Cancer is popping up every where all ages. I am so happy for you & your daughter, don't worry she will be fine it will take some time, remember positive thinking.
Yes it is a one day thing, in most cases. Very rushed, but I am happy to be home.
This is more painful then you could imagine. My husband told me yesturday the doctor said the pain will be quite bad for at least a few days, don't know why he did not tell me that the first day. It is no picnic, everything hurts. I have this ice cooler device that rotates ice water around the shoulder that helps alittle. The pain pills last 2-3 hrs, so I am going to add motrin today. I have to use the exercise chair today also, dreading that. I guess no pain no gain. I can barely cough, it just hurts to much. The nurse called yesturday & said if the pain does not get better to call the doctor. Throat really hurts really bad along with my neck from the nerve blocks, everyday should get better I hope.
I don't move at all in my sleep, strange in the back of my mind I must know better.
My husband invited an old friend he ran into over last night, could you imagine, here I am in pink pj's with cows all over them & don't even want to tell you how my hair looks. Honestly I don't know what he was thinking, have not seen this guy for at least five years & of all times to see him. My husband & I are going to have a talk about that today. Yes thank you moderaters for allowing us to support each other, at times we get alittle off but we mean no harm.
Chin up my friend, stay positive, no matter what. You are a wonderful mother. I know if my mother was still with me she would have packed a suitcase & been here in a heartbeat, your daughter is lucky to have you. I am sending you a big hug (with my good arm) & please remember to take care of yourself. Sammy

Thanks, Sammy, for all those nice words! Made me feel good! I'll post and update in the cancer forum on my daughter. But, oh my, you sure are going through an awful time. I know a person has to expect pain after a surgery, but it upsets me every time I read a post that describes all the agony and pain. I just hope that yours will ease up as each day goes by. By all means let your doctor know about the pain; hopefully he can order something a little stronger or up your dosage.
How did you do with the exercise chair? I bet that was an experience!! Hope it helps make you stronger and helps with your recovery. I can't wait until you say your feeling better and gaining use of that arm. I still can't believe you did not stay at the hospital at least overnight. I guess they get you in and get you out....like hospital's do these days.
I am totally exhausted and having lots of neck and back pain. Could hardly walk today. Oh, don't you just love husband's sometimes!! As good as mine is, he is driving me crazy...he doesn't listen when I tell him stuff, and then tells things wrong to people!!
You feel better, take care of yourself, and hope your getting some well deserved pampering!!
Keep me posted!

Chab, must be a man thing, I kind of blew up at my husband for not listening or asking the doctor more specific questions. Once again the medical supply told me when they deliverd another cold unit(fist one broke) that this sugeon has a good success rate. I am sure that is true but he needs to communicate more with his patients. I knew someone else should have come along, my husband is not one to ask questions.
I will look on the cancer board to check your daughters progress. My sister said my neices cancer is back., she has hodgkins lymthnoma(not spelled right), Was pretty far along when they caught it & she was lucky. Thats two in my husbands family & one in mine. scary.
Stress is not good for anyone, so be careful. Don't neglect yourself, it always catches up. Sammy
