I need some advice about my bloodwork. I feel terrible. Fatigue, dizziness, etc. Dr not concerned but from what I have read and from you guys, I should be concerned. My labs are as follows:

b12 287 range208-963
ferritin 15.8 range 10-120
wbc 4.6 range 4-11
rbc 4.55 range 4-5.2
mcv 88 range 80-99
plt 254 range 150-399

If more info is neede I have more bloodwork. I just wanted to post what I thought was important. What is going on and what do I do? I just stsrted reading about ferritin and realized mine is also low with a low b12. Am I anemic or is something else going on? I need advice . I am freaked out. I have health anxiety. lol KW

In order to tell if you are anemic, can you post your hemoglobin and hematocrit numbers.

Yes, your B12 and ferritin are on the low end of normal and could account for all of your symptoms. Most doctors don't worry when you fall inside the normal lab ranges, but many doctors do know that these numbers are not ideal. If you are anemic too, with these low numbers, it just makes things worse.

I don't know much about this. Thanks for looking at this. Could this mean something bad?

No, those numbers are good, so you are not anemic.

You do need to deal with the low B12 first (that is the worst) and the ferritin.

No, your numbers would not indicate anything "bad". If you are like me with health anxiety, I'm sure you are thinking about cancer. Please don't.

It sounds like you either have a dietary issue or you are having a problem absorbing both B12 and iron.

There is a "possibility" that you are losing blood somewhere which would cause the low ferritin, but your ferritin is not low enough to "scare" anyone. It could be due to menstrual irregularities (too much blood loss). Do you take any proton pump inhibitor medication for acid reflux like Prilosec or Nexium. They have been known to inhibit both B12 and iron absorption. You could be lacking the proper enzymes in your stomach to absorb these.

The first thing to do is start on some sublingual B12 (a tablet or liquid that is dissolved under the tongue). It would also be good to start a multi-vitamin with iron. Do this for 2-3 months and then go back to the doctor and ask to have these levels checked again. If you see an improvement, that is great. If not, you want to do further checks on whether you can absorb or not.

But nothing dangerous here.

Yes I do have health anxiety and I was Freaking that I could have cancer. I just feel worn out with aching joints and the Drs like your fine you need an antianxiety. Well after researching and looking at this board I knew I wasn't fine. I have learned alot from you and thanks for posting. I just started b12 sublingual and today I will get the iron and vit c is that to help with absorption?

Yes, the vitamin C will help the iron absorb better. The iron needs acid to break down better and vitamin C provides the best form (ascorbic acid).
