View Full Version : one last chance on the pill

I've tried every single pill and method known to woman kind. I've had a problem every single time.

The patch would not stay stuck to me and I gained weight and went crazy, the ring gave me some weird yellow discharge and would not stay up inside me, orthotricyclen (both regular and lo) gave me MAJOR depression and near psychotic symptoms.

So it's been condoms only for me for years. I've had no problems. However, lately I feel major anxiety because condoms alone just don't seem like enough. Plus my cycle is very irregular. If I'm 5 days late (not uncommon while not on the pill) I absolutely freak out and have panic attacks because I think I am pregnant. My anxiety has worsened because I went off my Zoloft for the first time in years.

The ONLY pill I somewhat tolerated a few years ago was Aviane. I took it for 6 months and it was pretty good. Then I started bleeding for about a month straight. So the doctor took me off it. I recently went to another doctor who told me the first doctor was wrong to do this. All I needed was a week of extra estrogen to stop the shedding of the uterus or something. Should I give Aviane one last chance? Since I'm off my Zoloft, do you think I will go "crazy" like I did on Ortho?

Well, the 'craziness' you've experienced is most likely do to the pill depleting B vitamins. You could try the Aviane again, but this time make sure you take a B complex vitamin every day. This should help keep the mood problems at bay. The bleeding stuff usually happens in the first few months of taking the pill, so I'm not sure why it would happen six months in. Sorry, I've never experienced that that far into a pill, so with that subject I'm at a loss. Hope I helped some, though.

I agree to take the Vitamin B complex! I've heard of it helping a lot of women with mood problems. I don't notice any difference on the pill, but bought a Vitamin B complex and take it just in case. It has a lot more B vitamin in it than a multivitamin.

About the bleeding for a month straight, did this happen after taking the pills at the end that give you a period, or did it happen out of nowhere? Have you tried the pill that only give you a few periods a year? Or maybe you could skip the last week if it causes you problems.

It was so long ago, but I think the random bleeding began when I had an IBS flare up that coincided with end of my period. I also suffer from Irritable bowel syndrome and it seems to be very closely related to my menstrual cycle. Now that I think about it, maybe some of my pill wasn't absorbed due to the IBS.

The bleeding wasn't a heavy flow like period blood, it was kind of a light brown sludge. It was like the old blood you might get righ in the beginning or end of a period. Not cool. I do want to find a pill I can live with. I really do.

i have tried one type of bcp, and personally that was enough for me to sweat them off for good. i avoid any non-herbal meds, and the side effects are just your bodies way of telling you it doesnt want that stuff in you. have you considered the non-hormonal iud, such as the paragard?

Yes I have considered it. BUT I have not yet had children, and I do not plan on it for about 5 years. So I am a bit frightened at the possibility of becoming infertile due to complications. My doctors all told me the only reason they prefer to give an IUD to women who already have children is because they assume those women will have an easier time psychologically if they become infertile (which is very rare I think). Wtf? That assumption does not make a lot of of medical sense to me.

that does sound odd. from what i have heard, you can only become infertile if you get PID, and thats caused by std's. thats why they only prefer inserting it for women who are in a monogamous relationship... less risk of std's. thats what my doc told me and what i have read. Im getting mine inserted later today, and have had not children either, but i am married, so there is no risk of getting an std, and no risk of that complication.
