Hi everyone,
I don't know what my problem is so I guess this is the section to post it in. Well recently, I don't know why, whenever I have to read out loud in class I have this issue with constantly having the need to swallow (making me give pauses where I don't have to and stopping at times just to swallow). I don't know whether this has got something to do with me getting nervous, out of breath, or just not confident enought to read out in class, or even having a dry throat.
Whatever the problem is, I just get embarrassed to read out as no one else in my class does this or has this problem. What could it be?
Thanks in advance.

Does this happen other times as well or only when reading in class? If you don't swallow how do you feel? Can you "control" it? Do you have any other repetative actions at times? I might have a few ideas but need more info.

Well when I speak I don't have this problem because I somehow coordinate my talking so that I don't end up with a dry throat whilst talking. But if I don't swallow whilst reading I get kindof "cut-off" and then I have to swallow. For instance, I start reading a large paragraph and when I get in the middle-end ish I get to a point where I have to give a pause and if I don't give a pause and continue it would sound as if someone just "muted" me until I'd swallow.
But then at times when I start reading out loud and do it for a while I somehow don't find the need to swallow (my throat doesn't go dry).
Do you people "coordinate yourselves" whilst reading so that you swallow at certain times or do it just naturally?
What exactly is the problem that I have?
tattoos no i don't have repetative actions at times.

Well my initial thoughts of what it could be don't seem right now. Maybe you do just have a dry throat. Some autoimmune conditions can cause this. Some medicines can cause this. Or perhaps it comes from being nervous when reading aloud. Because you said once you do it for awhile sometimes you do not have to swallow. Maybe because you become more confident/less anxious.
I don't think others really coordinate swallowing when reading. But maybe some have to. I know when I was younger I HATED READING OUT LOUD! I would be so panicky! But I don't remember it making me swallow. I just had a hard time breathing.
Maybe you can tell you teacher(s) and see if they make it easier for you. Or ask your doctor. Sorry I couldn't be of more help:confused:. I feel for you...must be frustrating! I hope others might have some ideas.

Thanks for your concern tattoos, I think I must say that I get quite nervous when reading out loud which is what makes my throat dry up too quick because when I try reading at home loud it doesn't happen; the tendency of needing to constantly swallow. Well I guess that I'll have to somehow learn to adapt to my class environment.
