Can anyone give me some opinions? Is this considered a disability? Do I have to tell my boss what it is? I asked for work accomodations and was denied. I am currently working for STD and wanted any other individuals who have been in some close situation. I so appreciate this board!

Hi,
I really don't know if addison's is a disability, may people who do have this disease work, my son has had it since he was 15 years old and he is now 24, he works part time (about 27 hours a week)and goes to colledge full time. He dose get tired and his legs get achey. It's allot for him right now to do both, I know I would be tired if I had to do all that. If for some reason your addisons is not under control, such as having to go for I.V.'s twice a month and your deathly sick, then you could maybe say it's a disability. My son's boss is aware of his addisons and asthma, I'm also an manager, I have employees who have diabetis, cerablepaulsey-(I have a feeling I spelt that wrong) , some have asthma etc., one has a heart condiditon. I'm glad I know, so if they would becaome suddenly sick, I would know why and what to do,
Karen

Are you talking about disability such as under the ADA of 1990 which means special accomodations at work and prohibits discrimination, or disability where you no longer can work and need short term or long term salary replacement?
I am not sure what accomodations you would need but while I was working, I let the security people know (it was voluntary) of illnesses as they controlled ambulance calls and so it would aid care. I also have a medic alert bracelet. My co-workers knew just in case something went wrong. Plus my watch was beeping all the time to remind me to take my medication.
Now I am on long-term disability with social security disability but addision's is not my only issue. I have a muscle disease as well.
