Hello Everyone,

Does percocet effect vicodin withdrawal? Will it prolong the withdrawal of vicodin. Meaning are they essentially the same substance?

I am trying to kick a 3 a day 10/325 vicodin habit. I took it for a month for back pain, stopped for 6 days, then started again. Its been about a month since I started again. Im worried about the withdrawals, and my friend offered me some percocets 5/325. I said no, but he stated that it is not the same as vicodin and it will not add to the withdrawal time. he stated to take percocets for a couple days in order to mask the vicodin withdrawals. Can any answer if this is true....any advice?

Theyre pretty much the same thing, so yeah, it'll just prolong your time on opiates.

good luck.

Percocet is actually stronger than vicodin. So it will definitely temporarily ease the vicodin withdrawal....but, depending on how many of the percs you take, the end result could be an even worse withdrawal.

My recommendation is to stay away from the percs. If you truly feel you must use another opiate to ease you through the withdrawal, I say you should choose something weaker than the vics. I personally went through a vicodin withdrawal last year. I used darvocet, a weak narcotic, to ease me through the withdrawal. The vicodin withdrawal was not that bad.

Of course, the best route is to avoid any other opiate while you go through withdrawal. Tapering the vicodin would be the best way to ease off slowly, making the withdrawal symptoms less intense than cold turkey
