I have had a deep sickly lung cough for 3 years for about 10 minutes every day especially the first half hour of cycling, my Doctor said I had a post nasal drip ( I cannot not feel it ) which is the probable cause, but looking at the symptoms on the net I cannot find this as a listed symptom . It feels like I am naturally trying to clear a small amount of phlegm from my lungs, but I have no build up in my throat or any soar throats, last year I asked for a lung x-ray which was normal. I would love to know if post nasal drip is a possible cause .
Many Thanks.

Radiorad,
I have suffering with PND and I have a cough at times. Usually in the morning when I get up and especially when I have more PND than normal (allergies-and interatctions with the things I am allergic to). I also deal with bad breath and a really sore throat.

What you describe actually sounds a lot like mild exercise induced asthma - which typically hits people after they start exercising (and actually is a slight narrowing of the airways in your lungs and an increased buildup of mucus in those airways). Some athletes (who are often unable to use some asthma meds because they're prohibited) are able to use breathing techniques to modulate their symptoms.
It doesn't sound like PND - I think if you had PND the problem would be more consistent and wouldn't just hit you after you start exercising.

Many Thanks for that info gcsmithjr ,
I mentioned exercise, as I can rely on it starting then, but it happens at any time (I have not exercised for 2 months but the symptoms remain the same) also I do not feel I have any asthma as I have never had any breathing difficulties.

I too have been diagnosed with PND, which started out as a little tickle in my throat for 2 weeks, to coughing up mucus a few times a day. Then my sinuses got stuffed wihtout ever having a cold. My doc then said I had a sinus infection and gave me antibiotics and some antihistamines. I felt great for 5 days, then I started having these tickles and coughs only around noon, and especially right after my cardio workouts (during my lunch hour). That's been going on for a couple weeks now. It's weird .. I won't feel anything most of the day, but after exercising (cardio) I'd feel run down, and I'd cough up mucus for an hour. Then I'd be fine. And I get these "waves" of body aches that come and go a few times a day, some days not at all.
And all this from PND? I'm the same as you in that I can't feel anything "sliding" down the back of my throat, but the doc says it's there. Now, it's the waves of feeling crappy that come and go that have me a bit worried, but I don't want to go back to the doc for fear of being seen as some kind of hypochondriac.

I was diagnosed with PND about a year ago, I would have sore throats a lot, and always had a small nagging cough. I would get bad sinus infections every now and then. I had a Tonsillectomy and adeniodectomy March 27, 2008. Since then my nose and breathing have improved. I feel so much better. I even have better digestion, before i often had an upset stomach and diarrhea. My dr said that my adenoids could have caused it too.

I started taking a 24-hour claritin every day towards the end of March and the cough and mucus are completely gone now. I guess it's all allergy based after all. I thought I was allergic to something in my air ducts when the heat was running every day. Since the spring has arrived, the heat has barely run at all, so that could be helping too. Either way, it's still allergy based.
Keep in mind I NEVER have typical symptoms for allergies ... sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes. I guess my allergies just go straight to congestion and PND.

It's important to note that many, many people have develop allergies in today's time...More and more things in our environment. It could be anything from dust, mold, grasses, trees, & etc. Your home is like all others...Filled with molds and dust, and are inevitable.....And, it's practically impossible to avoid grasses, trees, and shrubs....Allergens either blow in through your windows and doors, or come in on your clothes.....Just look @ your car hood after a couple of hours....One needs a "duster" to clean it off.
Allergies produce a tiny PND down the back of your throat that you may not even feel....That triggers your cough reflex. Suppressing the cough only treats the symptoms....Stopping the drip is the key, which it sounds like you've done!
Lastly, don't be surprised if over time, the Claritin either stops working, or doesn't work as well. This is very common and is called "tolerance." My ENT says that when this happens, you need to switch to a different anti-histimine and the body will respond. Then, after about 6 months, you can switch back and it's like you're starting all over again.
Good luck, and I'm glad you got the problem solved.
