Hello everyone. I am trying to determine if i have strep throat without having to visit a doctor, because I have a lapse in my insurance coverage of about 2 weeks.

I have a sore throat, with white spots on my tonsils. The little hangy ball thing is red and swollen. My throat hurts, but not badly. it just feels swollen.

I have no other noticeable symptoms, no fever, no swollen lymph nodes, etc. I have no runny nose, no cold symptoms either.

Does this sound like strep? I am supposed to have about 15 people over at my house tonight, and if I am contagious, i want to make sure not to infect everyone.

thanks for your help.

Without a throat culture, there's no sure way to know. It's been my experience with strep (as a mom) my kids usually had a pretty hefty fever with strep, sometimes they would break out in a rash, and my son would ALWAYS vomit. There were no cold symptoms, etc. Just VERY sore throat, achy, white spots, rash, and nausea. However, I had all these symptoms once and went to the doctor and it was simply tonsilitis. Basically, I think you need to see a doctor if you're not better within 24 hrs. It may be a cold coming on. Hope you feel better soon.

thanks soibhan.

i think that I probably have tonsilitis. from everything i have read, it seems more consistent with my symptoms. i would have thought i was too old to get tonsilitis, but maybe not.

i seem to be slightly better today. hopefully it will heal itself.

thanks for your kind conisderation.

best of luck to you and yours.

strep is very dangerous to your body-get a strep test and some penicillin-if it is strep-it will not go away on its own and you could be facing some serious complications from it.
