Anyone have any ideas as to good skin care after washing your hands 200 times a night? The vinyl gloves do not remedy the situation and I lotion after nearly every wash. Has anyone found something that does work. Cracked and bleeding hands are not for the ER. Thanks in advance..Palmer

I work in a lab and I wear nitrile gloves. I have to wash quite a few times a day. There is this cream here, I can't recall what it is called, but the jist of it is that you put it on before you put your gloves on. It protects your hands from the gloves. Also after work when you leave you can put it on and it seems to repair the dryness from the entire day. Try looking in lab supplies stores. You may have to check at the places that the gloves are purchased. You should be able to find this stuff in the States (I am from Canada). Actually I think we order it from the States. Good luck...

I think the lotion that is being described as is called Glove-n-care. Not sure on spelling, but yes look in your supply books. I have used it and I like it, it seems to be good, but the bottle runs out fast, and it is about $7-$8 for only about 10 ounces.

I always be sure to put the gloves on dry hands, without lotion prior to gloving because the gloves and lotion together irritates my skin. I just wash and dry completely in between patients. On any breaks I have and including lunch, I then apply lotion to my hands. This way the lotion actually has time to sit and absorb on my hands. Then I re-wash prior to seeing any patients.

At home in the evening I apply a moderate coating of Bag Balm (in the big green can) to my hands for overnight, while I'm sleeping. This seems to help me with the chapping and cracking.
Hope this may help you.

That isn't the name of the lotion I use, but it is probably the same type of product. I am sure that if you are interested in this type of lotion you will be able to find something no problem. Good Luck... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm not a health care person but my doctor told me straight out to use utter blum(spelling?). At times I actually slept with plastic gloves on with my hands soaked in this; it really works and you can get it in smaller containers and beauty store; I just went to Fleet Farm and brought it off the shelf there.

I am pretty new here but I use to take photographs for the SS WHITE BURRS Company and they produced powder free gloves. I photographed them and got many boxes of sample which I used and offered some to my son who was painting homes. They were quite comfortable. The company is located in Lakewood New Jersey. Perhaps you could find them on the internet and request some samples. I know they gave them out when I was working for them. The big draw was the red irritable hands that are so hurtful when wearing gloves all the time. JMHO

I use a product that we use on Ostomy patients to keep their skin protected from excessive moisture. It has silcone in it, &
it remains on the skin even though you wash your hands frequently. It really works, and
my skin is back to normal again. My hands were so cracked and bleeding, and nothing worked. The product we use here is called "Silcone Glove". But you just need to
ask one of your ET nurses about the products they use to create a moisture barrier, and I am sure they will have a comparative product.
I also use a herbal product the rest of the day, that has Myrcia Oil and Arnica Extract in it. Concrete workers use it to repair badly damaged skin on their hands. It also is great! My skin is so intact and soft again! It's great to not have cracked skin on my hands anymore. Good luck.

Mom used to use "Silicone Glove"... It was either from Fuller Brush or Avon... it was wonderful.... Check to see if the product is still on the market.... I'll let you know if I find out any information... Kay

I would wash my hands at least 30 times a day also. Luckily most of the hospitals I work at have moisturizing soaps, and sorbolene at the sinks so your hands dont get all dry. We have a choice of gloves also - I always go for the non-powdered.

It is important to only pat your hands dry gently with the paper towelling, not scrub them dry.

R.
