I am volunteering at my local hospital this summer. The postition i got assined is Surgical Services. I am not quite sure what i will be doing. Does anyone know what they let the volunteers do in this area. I also might sign up for Emergency Room Clinical. Any idea what i might do here? Thanks

The only volunteers I've ever encountered in O.R. waiting areas were quite senior in age and in volunteer hospital experience. [Usually the hospital's Ladies Auxilliary.]

Even so, their primary duties mostly involved greeting the patient's family, making coffee, restocking cookies, taking calls from O.R. rooms if surgery times differed from expected, etc. Basically, the job is to keep the families comforted and comfortable and to provide a communication link.

Well, they say it's Surgical Services Clinical and that it will be taking patients out to there cars from Outpatient and "other stuff". I'm not sure what "other stuff" is.
