I'm not sure what test your doctor used to determine the number of 15. Is it the serum iron test, or the ferritin?
I guess it really doesn't matter if you are anemic. Having the colonoscopy is standard procedure for anemia. It is not normal to be anemic and they have to find out why you are losing blood.

spirit--It is not enough to prescribe iron therapy without finding the cause for it, this is an incorrect way of diagnosing anemia. This doc is right to ask for testing to aid in ruling out reasons for anemia.
If you have a problem with supplements there are a lot of them to try. Don't give up on that one, prescription versions are much more tolerated for many people that have sensitivity to iron supplements. FLFLOWERGIRL:)
