View Full Version : Has anyone had Iron IV therapy for Anemia??

I have just undergone my second IV therapy of Iron. I was told I wasn't absorping the oral iron they had given me. My ferritin level is at 9 and I have VERY heavy periods lasting two weeks and have had 2 miscarriages in the past year. I like many on the board have had anxiety/panic and chronic shortness of breath but only since the Anemia. It has taken some time to get to the bottom of all this. The first IV only brought my level to 11 and I had the second one today. She forgot to dilute it and I felt like acid was going into my veins for 2 hours. I still have serious pain in my arm! These are $300 a shot and I want to make sure I am not just doing them for no reason. I don't get why the docs aren't more interested in why the Iron isn't absorbing orally!!!
Any ideas or sharing would be greatly appreciated as I am ready to win this battle.
sidenote: my cortisol levels were nearly absent due to years of extreme stress thus adrenal fatigue...not sure if there is any correlation?
Thanks!

IV or injections are your only choice when you are not absorbing oral supplements. Heavy periods make it a lot worse too. So you are anemic for two different reasons. Have you had your B-12 and Folate checked? FLFLOWERGIRL:)
