Hi I had a CT scan perfomed today on my sinuses. This is due to the fact I have had persistant sinus infections and a persistant cough for the past 12 months. I have suffered with sinus infections every year for years but this has just been constant. I am ALWAYS feeling sick and am at my wits end. Anyway I have the results but cant get in to see my doctor till next week so was hoping if I posted the results on here that someone could explain what they mean to me ? They make absolutely NO SENSE to me LOL. Anyway this is what it says as follows-

"There is a slight degree of mucosal thickening involving the floor of the right and left maxillary antrum, slightly more extensive within the left maxillary antrum. No other mucosal thickening of either maxiallary antra is seen. The infundibula of the ostiomeatal complexes are patent bilaterally.
The frontal and sphenoidal sinuses as well as the ethmoidal air cells bilaterally are clear and no other paranasal sinus mucosal thickening can be seen.
The nasal septum is deviated slightly to the left. There is pneumatisation of the left middle nasal turbinate. The nasal and post nasal airways are relatively patent "

I have absolutely NO IDEA what all this means so I hope that someone on here can explain to me in plain english what it does mean :)
Hope to hear from someone soon thanks

You have four sets of sinuses - 2 frontal sinuses just above your nose, 2 maxillary sinuses above your teeth in your cheeks, a sphenoid sinus (divided into to cavities) farther back in your skull, and ethmoid sinuses which are small pockets right behind your nose. All of them are lined with mucus membranes that can become swollen enough to cause the small openings that they drain through to become blocked.

It sounds like you have a little bit of swelling (i.e. "mucosal thickening) at the bottom of your maxillary sinuses on either side - the openings of the maxillary sinuses are at the top of the sinuses so they may be draining O.K. but are a little bit inflamed for some reason.

When the rest of the sinsuses and openings (i.e. ostiomeatal complexes) are described as being "patent" that means they're open and should be draining correctly which is a good thing.

Your septum (the main bony structure down the middle of your nose) is slightly crooked which can impact your breathing.

I'm not a doctor but the fact that there's not a lot of swelling and the sinuses are open sounds like a really good thing - it probably means that there is something other than a physical inflammation and blockages causing your problems (allergies, acid reflux, etc.).

Thanks very much for that. You made it make a bit more sense ;) The doctor said I definately had some swelling as it felt like I had some kind of mass in my nose. It was very painful. He said that my sinuses are swollen which is causing them to protrude. Im on my third day of anti-biotics and no relief in sight yet :(But that swelling feeling seems to have subsided. I just wish I could get rid of my headache and breathe normally again. But hopefully in the next couple of days  I didnt know that acid reflux could cause sinus probs, thats interesting. Will have to investigate that further. Like I mentioned in my previous post I have ALWAYS suffered from sinus infections for years, but now in the past couple of years it is much worse. I moved to a rural area so wonder if that has anything to do with it ?? I also own a lot of birds in avairies out the back which my mother is convinced is the cause but we will have to see I guess. Thanks again for replying to me and will post again when I have seen my doctor.
