I have never experienced vomiting or any adverse side effects. Always make sure you take folic acid 2 days after taking your dose, and always take your dose on the same day at the same time is possible. This is what I do. Only take this on that advice of your doctor, never sel medicate with it. The ony problem I have ever had is when I tried to cut the dosage down. I seem to have reached my level and so I just stick to it now. Hope this helps Take care. goldenwings  NHCasey 02-09-2008, 09:41 PM I take 25 mg. of Methotrexate every week. For me, i need to take mine after eating a good size dinner and go to bed. If I take it earlier, it does make me nauseaus. Also, some people like the injectable vs. the pills as it is supposed to not be as hard on your stomach. As far as the folic acid, I'd check with your doctor. It seems that each doctor has their own method and dose regarding this. Mine has me take 1 mg. every day, including the day I take my methotrexate. Good luck.....and call your doctor and let him know about the vomiting. Glojer 02-11-2008, 10:05 PM I took MTX for a short while, but it caused a problem with my liver. My husband however takes 30mgs once a week by injection. He has never had a problem with it, I really didn't have any side effects when taking it other than my blood tests went bad. My husband takes folic acid everyday but my doc had me not take folic acid on the day of the MTX. Like goldenwings my husband (with his docs approval) tried to lower his dose but that didn't work. His magic number seems to be 30mgs. a week. Glojer lives2sing 02-13-2008, 12:20 AM Hi MarchRose ;) I was on methotrexate 25 mg once a week for about four years. Initially, I had flu-like symptoms, including vomiting. I took it on Saturday, allowing time to get sick and recover so I could make it to work by Monday with a minimum of side effects. Honestly, it took about 6 months before the weekend "blahs" tapered significantly. My doctor monitored my liver function, which fortunately didn't become elevated. I also took folic acid, but that didn't lessen the methotrexate side effects. The worst thing for me with methotrexate was loose stools and urgency. I thought I had irritable bowel syndrome! When my doctor switched me to CellCept, the symptoms disappeared! If the vomiting doesn't go away soon, certainly check with your doctor. It's important for your doc to know exactly what's going on with any symptoms you are having. Nobody has ALL the answers when we're feeling bad, but a good doctor should be your lupus "quarterback". Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon ;) jenny58 02-14-2008, 03:56 AM Hi I used to get the awful sickness and taking the oral methotrexate gave me thrush in my mouth constantly I now inject it and it has stopped all the side effects, maybe talk to your doctor about having injections instead, hope this helps |
