Hi. I have heard a lot of attempted quitters remark that once they quit, they begin coughing, wheezing, and seem to have a lot of mucus. For me, I just got Chantix and plan to start it tomorrow. However, my boss quit cold turkey and has been smoke free for 18 months now. Like you, he too experienced wheezing and coughing, etc. His doctor told him that this is normal. His doctor said it is his body "rebounding" and begining to repair after so many years of smoking. I am NO doctor and I know not to give medical advice, but, I have heard of the coughing, wheezing from many people after they just quit smoking. After a little while, my boss stopped the coughing and wheezing and actually began to feel better. I wish you the BEST of luck w/ stopping. I start this pill tomorrow and I am praying that it works.

Quit smoking using chantix 2.5 months ago. Have had difficulty breathing and alot of coughing especially at night. I went to the doc and he said this was normal and gave me an inhaler to help. The inhaler is now empty but the breathing problems continue. Got some meds otc today for chest congestion. seems to be helping. it's better than smoking by any means. even with the coughing I feel better.
