I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but have the classic hypoT symptoms and am seeing an endocrinologist soon. I've read that there is a link between fibro and hypoT. Look up Dr. John Lowe for more info on this. I was just wondering whether anyone here, who's been diagnosed with fibro, has considered having their thyroid checked...or has been diagnosed with hypoT as well.

Hi Innocence:
I have hypothyroidism. This is a common occurrence in FMS patients.

Blessings,

Oh, I didn't realise it was that common. Do you have Hashimoto's??

No to Hashimoto's. Just the plain old garden variety Hypothyroidism.

I was dx'd with hypothyroid long before I got the FMS dx. My first doctor wouldn't test me enough to see that my thyroid was messed up, but I knew better because my thyroid gland was swelling. So much so that it was choking me most of the time. I found a new doctor. Now I am taking 175 mcg a day of Synthroid. There's still something a little off about my thyroid because it still periodically swells.. maybe my body isn't converting the T3's right or something... but now I'm actually getting treatment. That's the most important thing to me right now... and I've a long road to trudge before I get everything that's wrong with me fixed, or at least managed.

Yes to Hashimotos' and hypothyroid. I now take T3 drug (cytomel) instead of synthroid. It helped a great deal more than the synthroid. Still working on getting everything in order, it takes a very long time but the journey is worth it because I am worth it. Never give up!

Hello,

My Dr. ordered blood test because, I am diabetic and when he sent me for blood work he checked me for thyroid. It was then that he diagnosed me with hypothyroid. I was diagnosed for fibro around 3 years ago. I am on medication for thyroid & fibro now. I am just starting to feel less tired. I am at the beginning of my second flare up in a row. So, the days are still very hard. I still try to stay in a good mood just the same. I've been reading alot on the message board that has helped alot. Plus I try to watch comedy shows/videos to help get through. My flare ups are constant pain with sharp pain in the middle of my back and my neck. I can't turn my head left or right. I have to put heat on at all times.

Hope everyone is having a good day,

M
