Hi everyone! I sure hope someone can help me out. My husband had the Uppp surgery on Thursday. He came home yesterday. His throat is really filled with a lot of thick mucous. He says that the liquids have a hard time going down. He is not drinking enough. He is urinating. I am really worried. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, he is only taking half the dose of his painkiller. He doesn't really have a lot of pain. It is the mucous that is bothering him. Does an icepack help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nasal saline sprays will help alot. As will sucking on ice chips. You can use the saline spray many times a day.. My ENT recommended every 2 hours the first week. He also recommended Pretz Nasal spray which is OTC and Ph balanced to minimize nasal irritation and burning. Often it has to be ordered by the pharmacy because they do not keep it in stock. Look into it. If the throat gets numbd enough with the ice chips he should be able to drink a bit more as well.

Good Luck.
