I have had a lump on the right side of my face now for about 10 months. I am currently seeing a specialist who is considering surgery. They are not sure whether this lump is in the parotid gland or attached to the facial muscle. I am having another ultrasound in a week to see whether it is on the underside of the muscle or on top. The lump is more prominent and sore on the inside of the cheek, but when i clentch my teeth it gets prominent from the outside of the cheek.

The lump has grown twice the size since it was first noticed. I have had two biopsies where they went through the outside of the face, but did not get anything as they think the muscle was overlying the tumour and they could not get to it.

Originally they thought i had a swollen lymph node, due to infection, but the lump has only grown and all tests came back negative for any infection.

They are hoping if the lump is on the underside of the muscle they will be able to operate through the mouth, rather then having to cut the face open and go in that way. This is what the ultra sound is for.

My question is has anyone had this kind of problem before and what was the outcome and is surgery really necessary? The lump is definately starting to get more tender, but only from the inside of the mouth.
