My 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday and was given an antibiotic. In addition, the doctor stated her ear drum was not perforated/punctured. Today she has fluid draining with blood. Should I wait and let the antibiotic take affect or seek additional medical attention.

Thank you,

Steve

My 12 year old daughter hasn't had an ear infection for many years. She was diagnosed with one yesterday and given medication. Today she has fluid draining from her ear mixed with blood. I am wondering if I need to let the antibiotic take affect or bring her back to the doctors in the morning. She has had many ear infections when she was little but never blood drainage. This makes me nervous.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Steve

Let your doctor know the ear is draining. Additional care may be needed. Some will heal in time and others will need surgery.

Protect the ear from water.

The ear was not punctured yesterday but it happened over night.

I agree with Misty. The doctor needs to know the ear is draining now. Let us know how your daughter is getting along and best of luck to her!

Thank you very much for responding so quickly. I will be sure to speak with the doctor in the morning and see if they need to see her again. I will let you know what I find out.

Steve
