i have had ankle surgery to clean out right ankle, which has severe arthritis in it. the surgery really did not help and i was wondering if anyone has had ankle fusion or ankle replacment, that i could talk with to decide which way i might want to go. thanks

Sorry I havent had any of that done, but I do have severe arthritis in my right ankle, with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, severely torn tendons and talar osteochonral lesions. My podiatrist spoke about surgery to me but not pushing to me have it. He said surgery on my ankle would be very complicated and I would end up in more pain that I have now ( Icannot even imagine that!)And I have heard that before in my life even before id been diagnosed. I now have a big, rigid AFO brace I wear all the time and I cannot believe how much it has helped my pain. I still get some pain in there but not as bad and it keeps my ankle more in line otherwise without it my ankle almost touches the floor. Personally, even if I was told i could have surgery, Im not sure that I would being it's not to bad with this brace. My worst problem with the brace is finding shoes to fit. BUt I just found a wide shoe store (they only sell wide shoes) and they have lots of shoes that fit me so im going there from now on. But I am sure there will be others who have had surgery that can offer their opinions.
