Whay antibiotic should be taken before dental work? I have never heard of this one the dentist wrote... aren't they suppose to be careful on which antibiotics to use as not to do any more damage to liver?

I used to have to take an antibiotic before I went to the dentist because I had been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. The purpose is to prevent inflammation/infection to the heart muscle. My cardio doctor said I no longer have mvp, so I don't take it anymore.
