I found out that i had PCOS last April and every month ive been going through pain, Usually around that time that i get my period. My whole life i have had regular periods, until this month i am now 1week and a bit late. At first i thought cause i might be pregnant, but i was also told that i wasnt able to have children because of this problem left so long and untreated or attended to. I am now missing a days work because I have had severe pains in my lower abdomen, thay have only given me oxycodens for my pain. Which i hate taking but i do at times like these. I have been to many doctors and they have put me on medication that its made for infections, and i have basically taken it every month, which i dont think is good for my body, i have been getting the run around from both of the doctors in my family and i do not know where else to turn, can some one give me some advice and help guide me. I am scared that this is going to effect me for the rest of my life. So please if any one knows anything about this pcos please help!!!!

Hi Courtney,
First off, I was told years ago I would never have children. I got pregnant five times. I have two children ages 14 and 8. So please do not get discouraged. Years ago when I was first diagnosed with PCOS I was always in alot of pain. Have you seen a Reproductive Endocrinologist? That is who I finally ended up seeing. I would miss work every month because of severe pains. All of my pain was caused my the enlarged ovaries. They were 3 times there normal size.
I know what it is like to not get any answers. I know now a days that the medical field is better than when I was trying to get pregnant. They seem to be learning more and more about procedures for PCOS. In 1993 my doctor performed an Ovarian wedge resection with Ovarian Diathermy. That was new back then. My doctor who I was going to wanted to do this on me. He was honest and told me he had just went to a conference on this procedure.(the ovarian Diathermy) I was his 3rd patient that he had performed this on. It worked, I got pregnant with my son the same month. If you have to call around to see if any doctors specialize in PCOS. I had to travel an hour one way to see my doctor but, it was worth it. I wish you the best of luck on your jouney with PCOS.
