;)I'm kinda trippin cause some of you have had a tough time with the recovery process with the tonsillectomy. I have a pre-op appointment Wednesday and go time the following week. I'm going to keep reading and get some ideas for things to help comfort me if it hurts. I hope they dont give me codeine cause it makes me sick. I'm thinking the long term benefits will make the short term pain more bearable... Thanks for the info!:D

I was one of the lucky ones, I did not have that bad of a time.
Read all the pointers, and most of all, EAT EAT and EAT, plus, DRINK
my doc said it over and over, glad I listened, eating-the calories, help you to heal faster, so my doc said
plus help to keep the scabs wet, mine were off by day 5, with ZERO pain or bleeding
the very day I got home I ate pudding, mashed potatoes with gravy and applesauce, and some baby food-bananas
the next day, I had pancakes, lipton noodle soup, and chicken breast and mashed potatoes, plus some jello/pudding and applesauce in between
on the third day I was eating beef stroganoff
saltine crackers worked great for me as well
and scrambled eggs
just eat, and drink-calorie drinks, not water
good luck, you'll be fine
I'm right at week 2 today, and most of the time I must remind myself not to do anything stupid, because I forget I had surgery

Good luck to you on your upcoming tonsillectomy. I hope you have a speedy recovery and that all goes well. I wasn't able to take codeine either but my ENT gave me liquid lortab along with antibiotics. On my post op paperwork and words from my dr. at least two weeks for any physical activity. Your dr. should go over all of that with you. But the key is to really drink, drink, and drink some more. And start eating as soon as you can. That is very important.:)

I am wondering about exercise as well. I want to, but can't find a specific timeframe.
My ENT told me last week, to give it another 10 to 15 days of rest, so I'm going with that.

I appreciate your kind words and advice, I am stocking up on juice, ice cream and popsicles, mashed potatoes, and theres always room for J-E-L-L-O!
Protein shakes are at the ready, and the nerves are pretty nurvous! But I must say it is pretty cool to have somewhere like this to come and get info from other people that have gone through it! I'm sure my doc will tell me how long to rest, even if it's not what I want to hear...
Thanks again...

I could only drink cold water the first few days, then I wanted warm drinks after that.
Juice burned, any kind I tried.

Your surgery is the 5th? Mine is the 12th. I wish I could get it over with sooner. Haha.
I don't get a pre-op appointment. All I have to do is call the hospital the day before and they will tell me what time to be there the next day. I think a pre-op would make more sense.

Thanks for checking in bkris! pre op went well, they just listened to my heart and lungs, the one thing that did suck is the nurse came in and said, "now you know this is going to hurt for a while" didn't really need to hear that again! But oh well, the time will pass quickly. I registered at the hospital and I have an 8 oclock check in with a 9:30 game time. I'm looking forward to getting them out!
The 12th huh? Cool, I have my post op appt on the 13th, so I'll let you know how it's going! I'm sure we have lots of fun to look forward too! Good luck kitty!!

Even with all the pain that was involved with this surgery, I can honestly say that it was well worth it. I'm still recovering but I do feel alot better. And it is going to be wonderful to not have to worry about being sick all of the time. After a year and half of this I'm ready to be healthy. Good luck to you and keep me posted.

Yep, the 12th. I have no idea when I will have a post op appointment. They told me 4-6 weeks. LOL That seems like a long time considering everyone else seems to get them a week or so down the road.
I am actually looking forward to getting it done as well. I just hope mine is early in the morning because if I have to wait most of the day I will get antsy. haha. Also, I don't find out my surgery time until the day before it happens. Heh.
I will just keep waiting.

Hi Kitty...I understand about the anticipation of waiting. I had no idea about anything or what to expect until after my surgery which of course was from these message boards and like you I didn't know what time my surgery was going to be until the evening before. Since you and Rob will be going in on the same day please when you can keep me updated on your recovery and on how your doing. Good luck!:)

So I'm alive... I tried to go to work this morning, but felt very faint and weak, clammy and pale. I feel like a woussie! LOL I'm starting to eat more solid foods, but still real sore. My taste buds are falling off in the back which looks and feels weird. I see the big brown patches in the back of my throat, I wish I could just scrape em off and spit em out. My ears have been hurting and ringing at times. When I wake up in the morning my throat throbs from being so dried out. I'm bout to go to bed so tomorrow hopefully I'll get to go to work. I'm not going to rush it though, cause I figure it's better to take the time off now, then rush back and not be fully healed. It took about 5 days to really see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. When I woke up from surgery, they gave me a couple shots of demerol, and got a wheelchair for me to leave the hospital in. I was in the hallway for like 2 minutes and was dying for some water. I asked the nurse for some and she brought it right back, as soon as that water hit my throat I started betting super light headed and passed out! I told my wife right before i went that I was on my way out, my 4 yr old daughter saw me, but luckily thought nothing of it! LOL
so next thing I know I'm back in the post op room, and the nurse says oh its prolly just that the cold water made your body go into some kind of shock, and then the anesthesiologist (in the next bed over, who looks and talks like House which I find totally cool) says or it was the 200cc's of demerol in a real sarcastic tone. I was cracking up on the inside, but it hurt too damn bad to laugh... anyway Good luck to the pre ops and keep on keepin on to the post ops! cheers!:jester:

DId they just send you home after you woke up? or did they keep you a few hours first?
I was told they will keep me 4-6 hours depends on how I am doing. I find out later this afternoon what time my surgery is tomorrow. I am hoping for it to be in the morning, but I bet they will make me wait all day. LoL

Ah that sucks that you're not feeling well yet.
I really hope I don't throw up much or at all. Throwing up freaks me out and I really don't want to do it. Not to mention I can only imagine how much it hurts to throw up with no tonsils there. LOL

Kitty
I was in the hospital for about 2 hrs total before they let me come home. I guess it really depends on your ENT. With me I work at the hospital where I had my surgery so I kind of pushed to go ahead and come home because I was just so miserable. And there is no place like home especially going through a procedure like that. But as of now I am 1 month post had another follow up visit all is progressing well but I am taking forever to completely heal. Still some minor swelling and scabbing. He put me back on a steroid pack and said hopefully within 7 to 10 days I will be fully recovered. Good luck to you.:)

Ahh cool. 2 hours is pretty good. Heck, I have to be there three hours early so they can do whatever they need to do. I have no idea what they need me for three hours for. Haha. Admitting can't take that long. I wonder if I have to wear one of those gowns. I was told to wear loose clothes though, so maybe not.
Hopefully you get healed up soon. I hope I am healed sooner rather than later. I won't want to go back to work if I am not healed. I don't really have an option to stay home longer really. Heh.

Loose clothing so you will be comfortable and yes a gown. I was able to do all of my admission paperwork the day my ENT told me about the surgery which was the Thursday before my surgery on Tuesday. I had to be there at 7:15 to sign in they took me up right away for IV's and just general health questions plus I had to speak with the anesthesist, surgery was at 8:00 and I was leaving by 9:30. Good luck to you I hope all goes well for you.

Thanks.
I did fill out some forms the day they booked my surgery, but I still have to fill something else in at the hospital. At least I think that is what they said.
We're leaving in about 15 minutes. Just killing time now. Heh.
