My symptoms are similar but I don't typically see food in the stool unless I've eaten lettuce, tomatoes or corn. Color is usually a reflection of what I've eaten but usually it's just the normal color.
I too experience constant pain or discomfort and mine often sneaks up under the ribs as well. We all experience the pain in different ways and with different regularity.
To receive a dx of IBS, you should schedule some tests, particularly a colonoscopy. Generally, a doc will consider how long such symptoms have been present and for IBS it is three months or more. If you contine to feel bad, you might want to make an appointment with your doc.

I find that certain foods will irritate me more then others. Try keeping a "log" of what you're eating and how you're reacting, that's how i figured out what to stay away from.
The testing for IBS can be annoying, especially when the 3 doctors that i looked to for opinions tell me that it's hard to diagnos. I've also been to see a homeopathic doctor, i figure it can't hurt to try all avenues! He started me on this liquid called Iberogast. It tastes like crap but i've been on it now for a few weeks and I find that its helped with the pain.

 i also get pains in my sides and across my lower back which is only relieved by a visit to the toilet then as i start to eat again and my bowels begin to gradually fill up again the whole miserable process starts again.changes in diet are no help.I have tried many different medications none of them work.Going to my GP was a complete waste of time some of them should try living with it! It dominates my life now to the extent i hate most of my days that occur. So what the hell can you do about this.

mungum.to very honest theres not much you can do about at ive had mine for years on and off.i know what you are going through and feel for you as well.just try a balanced diet but drink plenty of water if you drink coffee i would advise you not to drink coffee because on a lot of people coffee make your symptoms worse. i drink tea only about three every day.my pain is all over my stomach down low to up high.and after i eat the pain getts worse.does this happen to you

Hike12.Yes i also find the pain becomes stronger after eating very often within 5 or 10 mins i,m not a big fan of coffee but i do like me cup of rosie lee,i suppose thats being a typical british guy.Have you had any experience of homoeopathic medicines? i,ve come to the conclusion i,m stuck with it for life and i just have to learn to live with it.My next door neighbour is going through the hell of advanced bowel cancer so i guess i,m not doing so bad.
