I think any NRT is safer for you than smoking. It's pure nicotine and your not getting the 4000 other chemicals that smoking brings.
I understand what your saying about just prolonging the addiction. NRT did not work for me, but it has worked for many.
Good luck

You will go through the withdrawls, but, they won't be as intense as complete cold turkey. I got off the Commit lozenges after 4 days and it was 2-3 days that I still had strong cravings, but nearly as bad as when I tried without anything. Don't worry about that right now. Your looking to the future and worrying yourself for nothing. You can cross that bridge when you get to it. You are not getting as much nicotine on those as you did with cigarettes. You should feel good about that, don't think your not quitting because you have those. You are quitting, just doing it gradually. Stay strong, you can do it!!

I quit smoking using chantix, I'm currently on day 15 without cigs. I think I'm actually going to quit this time. I'm kinda worried about coming off the chantix, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Good Luck

Relax and take it one day at a time. I stopped smoking using the patch and hypnosis. I went back and forth on the patch. I stayed on it longer than suggested and worked my own schedule. My doc said it was okay since it was better than smoking. In fact I was off the patch for 4 months and got an overwhelming urge to smoke. So I went back on the lowest patch for a couple of months. I have been patch free for 7 months and smoke free for 19 months. If it hadn't been for a 2 month relapse in 2006 I would be smoke free for over 2 years. I did not have any noticable withdrawal from the patches. So keep it up. Godbless
