I have had minor nose bleeds most of my life and once cauterized I didn't have any problems.

Three years ago I had a swooshing noise accompanied by severe headaches inside my head that were constant with my heart beat, After many visits to doctors who said I was just growing older and since I was in the Army during the Korean war and was exposed to loud explosions that was to be expected.

As the noise grew louder, my wife could hear it at night when we went to bed or when she stood close to me. I was at the point of suicide. Then one day my doctor detected an irregular heart beat and I was referred to neurology clinic at the VA hospital in Seattle.

A student from the U Of W was checking my heart whith the stethescope when I told her to place it on top of my head if she wanted to hear somthing strange. When she did, she was shocked enough to bring in other students and the head of the clinic to listen. I was sent for an MRI and an angeogram and it was determined I had a dura artereo venous malformation on the brain and this was causing the noise as well as headaches,

I was sent to another hospital for more MRI's and angeograms. I was told there were three ways they could treat it. One was with the gamma knife (radiation), a cranialotomy, or embolization with a medical glue. I elected the glue and this was done through the femoral artery.

After waking up the noise was down to a faint enough noise I could put up with it. The doctor said he get to all of it without causing a fatal stroke. I asked about it bleeding because most people that have them usually die or are severely impaired the rest of their life. He said if mine bled it would drain out the sinus since it was between the covering of the brain and the skull.

This has been a long lead up to my current problems. I have been having severe nose bleeds and head aches that start during the night. Some of the nose bleeds don't just drip, but pour in a stream and last for several minutes.

Could this be the DURA AVM bleeding or just a weak large capillary springing a leak?

One time I was lifting a heavy object and a stream of blood squirted out of my nose and across the room, but didn't continue bleeding. I don't know if I should go back to my neurosurgeon or an ENT doctor. Anyone have any advise or help?

Welcome, dewdo,

I have no experience with any of the things you are sharing with us...but I would think that your neurologist would be the place to start. Do calll him/her right away. Bleeding is an emergency, especially given your history!

Take care and do let us know how everything turns out. We'll be thinking of you .
