melanie in mary 02-28-2008, 12:54 PM I have had IBS for years and everything is pretty much under control except for all the excess gas!!!! Can anyone recommend a good product to take that really helps with this problem? thanks Sponsor plasmodiumovale 02-29-2008, 02:31 PM 1) Figure out which food are causing it, and avoid those foods (sorry.) 2) Try swallowing a spoonful of baking soda (with juice or something-- it tastes gross) in an "emergency" (but I don't think this is safe to do often. Check with a doctor.) 3) Activated Charcoal supplements might also help in an "emergency" (but don't take often, because they prevent absorption of vitamins/minerals) 4) Experiment with different digestive enzyme supplements (from a health food store)-- you might need to take them whenever you eat. 5) Ask doctor for a prescription that might help? Sorry I don't know more... tigerlilyx61 02-29-2008, 06:09 PM I have found that dairy products have caused this in myself. Since stopping almost all dairy its gotten much better. Also, some forms of fiber do it to me too. West Coast Girl 03-01-2008, 06:53 PM I have found eating too much of processed sugar products - yup, all the good stuff! - really increases my gas - especially if eaten on an empty stomach. On days when I can stay away from sugar I have almost no gas. The natural sugars in fruit don't cause much gas at all for me. I have experimented with eliminating dairy, high fibre foods, wheat, etc and using OTC gas remedies but nothing has made as big of a difference as sugar. georgiana 03-02-2008, 07:07 AM Hi you can not go wrong with aloe vera gel.Start drinking it now melanie in mary 03-02-2008, 02:30 PM I agree..I think alot of my gas problem comes from processed sugar and milk. The last few days I have slowed down on both of them and notice that I feel less gassy! thanks everyone for your ideas jrose1358 03-02-2008, 08:50 PM I have to chime in on the sugar/gas connection. Eating sugar is like taking a gas pill for me. I also cannot eat processed foods or packaged foods with lots of preservatives in them. I just have to stick to whole food basics. Sorry- not much fun but works for me AND I do feel good when I stick to fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains and low fat dairy. jrose |
